COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Designed as a flavorful session beer, Oarsman Ale uses a classic German brewing technique to impart a light, refreshing tartness. Oarsman Ale grew out of a desire to explore the tradition of session beers, trading intensity for finesse while still creating a worthwhile experience for the taster. The grain bill includes a healthy portion of wheat, while light hopping lend citrus & herbal notes to the aroma. Fermented with Bell’s house ale yeast, Oarsman comes in at 4.0% alcohol by volume. Rather than being the dominant flavor note, the tartness in Oarsman takes on more of a palate-cleansing role, making it perfect with meals or purely on its own.

UPDATED: JUL 31, 2012 Light, bubbly, almost cider like. Would be completely boring if not for a somewhat interesting tart, lemon finish. Quaffable on a hot summer day. Otherwise not enough going on here to warrant a higher score.

As pale and fizzy as any adjunct lager. The aroma is slightly bitter, and the flavor is really tart. Not bitter, but tart. Like pickle juice and beer mixed together. This was pretty bad.

Appearance: cloudy yellow, with a short, fizzy white head shrinking to a thin collar, with minimal lacing. Aroma: bright, tart citrus, a bit of DMS skunk, some peppery grass. Taste: tart and slightly sour citrus, with some black pepper and cracked wheat. Finish: clean and crisp, with a bit of lingering peppery spice and some cracker notes. Notes: Not a huge fan of the berliner weisse style, but this was a well-executed take.

Pretty tasty but not initially as tart as I would like and Finish was pretty bland, but got little better as it went on. Really was a little different sip to sip. Pretty good attempt though.

Bottle bought at Bells. Very pale yellow pour with light light head. Minor aromas. Sour initial taste but finishes yeasty. I would say this was bad but since I got it directly from Kalamazoo it would be doubtful.
