COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Designed as a flavorful session beer, Oarsman Ale uses a classic German brewing technique to impart a light, refreshing tartness. Oarsman Ale grew out of a desire to explore the tradition of session beers, trading intensity for finesse while still creating a worthwhile experience for the taster. The grain bill includes a healthy portion of wheat, while light hopping lend citrus & herbal notes to the aroma. Fermented with Bellís house ale yeast, Oarsman comes in at 4.0% alcohol by volume. Rather than being the dominant flavor note, the tartness in Oarsman takes on more of a palate-cleansing role, making it perfect with meals or purely on its own.

I think the sourness is a bit too much for me to want to have this as a session beer. It really packs a bite that seems more vinegary than citrusy at limes. I very much disagree with the description that claims tartness isnít the dominant flavor note.

[Bottle] Clear pour is yellow in color. Nose is of sharp yeasty notes, lemongrass and sweet malts. Taste is surprisingly tart. Wheat malts, lemon notes, dough and green apple in the taste. Highly carbonated. Very unlike what I have come to expect from Bellís. Tasting notes from 11/2011.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Pours pale yellow with a nice head, aroma of cheese, yogurt, puke, flavor is floral with yogurt, floral tones, medium bodied.

Got this from a buddy who drain-poured the one he opened. Grassy, lemony aroma. Tart, sour, almost astringent flavor intitially that quickly mellows out into lemongrass and citrus. Finishes dry. Little to no hoppiness or sweetness. Obviously not everyoneís cup of tea but I kinda liked it. Would be a good summer afternoon/lawnmower beer.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks zvikar. Hazy yellow with a white head. Pleasant mild lactic aroma with some fruitiness. Sourish flavor, wheaty, with yogurt and a spicy hint. Light-bodied. Mild and refreshing.

Light tartness aroma. Very pale in appearance and pours with a light head. Very light bodied with a tart taste. An easy drinking ale that is light on the palate and is drinkable. It sort of reminds me of drinking a High Life.

A lot of negativity for this beer for some reason. Itís a great, refreshing, lemony ale. Palate is crisp and tart, and washes away quickly. Head develops nicely, but dissipates fast. Sessionable and great for the beach or a barbeque.

The appearance is like a nice light golden pils. The aroma is fruity and pleasant. Thatís where the positive signs stop. Tastes like a Weird mixture of club soda, alcohol, grapefruit rinds, and lemon rinds. Not good.

Bottled 11/26/13. Pour has a light golden yellow color with little head besides a ring of white foam. Aroma has not much to offer, faint tartness, a bit of lemon, and grains. Mouth feel is light and the carbonation on the low side. Flavor again leaves me looking for more, light Berliner tartness, mild lemon, and some grainy wheat. There are no flaws in the beer and it drinks extremely smooth I guess like a session Berliner mild.

Love Bells, but this stuff is just horrible. 5.75 of the 6-pack went down the drain. Iíll just concede that this is not the type of beer for me.

A- Pours a yellowish hue with a thin, off white head. S- Smell is slightly sour, hints of lighter fruit, bready. T- Taste is tart and bready with hints of lemon. M- Medium bodied with a good deal of carbonatin. D- I really disliked this beer. The tartness, while intentional, really didnít mesh well for me. Wonít be drinking this again.
