COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Designed as a flavorful session beer, Oarsman Ale uses a classic German brewing technique to impart a light, refreshing tartness. Oarsman Ale grew out of a desire to explore the tradition of session beers, trading intensity for finesse while still creating a worthwhile experience for the taster. The grain bill includes a healthy portion of wheat, while light hopping lend citrus & herbal notes to the aroma. Fermented with Bell’s house ale yeast, Oarsman comes in at 4.0% alcohol by volume. Rather than being the dominant flavor note, the tartness in Oarsman takes on more of a palate-cleansing role, making it perfect with meals or purely on its own.

Sample at the Bell’s/Lebowski Dude-A-Thon at Studio 35 on 01/17/10. The beer is a hazy yellow color with a thin white head that diminishes quickly. Spotty lacing. Aroma of lemons, grass and wheat. Light, clean body with flavors of yeast, lemon rinds, and mildly grassy hops. Notes of pepper here and there too. The finish is fruity with a residual lemon aftertaste. Decent overall.

Pours a clear golden with a medium off-white head. Aroma is wheat and some citrus notes. Flavor is wheat, bisquits, pepper, citrus, and some tart, sour notes. Light body and medium carbonation. Pretty light on flavor but not bad.

hazy straw color, aroma of lemon, wheat, grain, flavors of lemon, wheat, bread, slightly sour, like a lemonade beer, but a good one, not a sugary one

Was just average to me. Slightly sour but no funk. This is a great palate cleanser for sure and will probably use it as such in the future

On tap at the Brass Tap for Bells Deep event. Poured a light straw yellow color with aromas of light funk, lemon, some biscuit, and some wheat. Flavors are a light tart citrus, and some wheat notes. Real nice and refreshing beer overal

Poured a pale golden color with a very small head that quickly dissipated. Smell is heavy wheat, some citrus, lemon, and light tartness. Taste is cereal, wheat, lemon peel, and a medium tart finish. Thin body, but not bad for such a low ABV, and high carbonation. I would rate this lower as a wheat beer, but as a Berliner I give it a few extra points. Straightforward and somewhat simple, but a great beer for a hot summer day. Highly drinkable.

Pours very light, slightly cloudy, and whitish-yellow with very little head. Great citrusy flavor that pairs well with a hot summer day.

This is a very great, refreshing beer. Light, lemony color with a slight head. The flavor is crisp, citrusy, refreshing with a hint of herbalness. The palate is creamy on the fore, followed by a crisp, tart finish. A great beach beer. Pair with citrusy grilled seafood.

Light, bubbly, almost cider like. Would be completely boring if not for a somewhat interesting tart, lemon finish. Chuggable on a hot summer day. Otherwise not enough going on here to warrant a higher score.

Bottle.
Pours a cheddar orange with a nose of malted orange bread. Flavor is biscuit with orange chunks and toast. Average mouthfeel. Meh.
