Pre Great Taste, Maduro, Madison. It had been quite some time since I last had this, and I remember the fall stouts from Bells with much fondness. I’d like to see Bells take this in a bourbon barrel direction, as this would lend itself well to this beer. THe nose is not overpowering. The palate is chewy, a bit roasted, with notes of cocoa powder and cream. Finish is chewy and drying. A solid sipper.

Draft. Poured a black color with a large frothy light brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted chocolate malt aroma. Medium to heavy smooth sweet chocolate flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a very good beer.

On tap at a Bell’s tap takeover. Big frothy fast dissipating head. Aroma is roast with just a touch of oats and chocolate smell. Has a medium body. The taste is flavorful but mellow. A bit sweet and dry far from a heavy oatmeal taste. Nice smooth creamy finish. With I could get this in bottles regularly.

I dug this one, big time....has a really pleasant chocolaty body without being too heavy, some decent hops on the backside, and an overall great taste. It’s not too heavy, but I wouldn’t call it a thin stout either. IT has surprising body for the low alcohol content.

On tap at Bell’s. Now this was a tasty little treat. Medium bodied, nice and sweet. Even alongside the bigger stouts, this one held up on its own. Easy drinking, but plenty of character. Nice.

Glass at the Bell’s tap takeover at 4th Street Patio on 10/12/11. Excited to try this one again because it’s been 3 and a half years since the first and only time I’ve had it. Pours black with a thick brown chocolate milk head. Aroma is chocolate, cream and coffee bitterness. Roasty malt flavor with chocolate and cream before a bitter coffee finish. Think of Kalamazoo stout a little sweeter or Double Cream Stout a little roastier. Tasty!

A real solid oatmeal stout, or stout that is, the oatmeal part is pretty trivial in most if not all oatmeal stouts.

Served on draft at Maduro in Madison, WI at the GTMW pre-party. Pours a very dark brown color with a large creamy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of big roasted malts, nuts, oats and smoke. The taste is rich roasted malts, coffee, oats, nuts and a bitter hop finish. Medium bodied. Damn good.
