3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: OCT 8, 2013 On tap at Eccentric Cafe, July 2012. Deep rustic copper and cloudy, ruby-red; thin eggshell head. Aroma of raisins, figs, and booze-soaked dates. Strong brandy and wine-like alcohol presence in both aroma and flavor. Very potent, sherry and brandy heat in the throat. Sweetness helps to cut the burn a bit; grapes, raisins, plums. Sweet malt in the form of caramel, sticky toffee, and butter. Astringency in the finish with a bitter bite. Heavy, sticky, oily mouth feel with low carbonation. Great beer, just a little too immature and perhaps too "hot" to love. Even sipping can be a tough exercise. Tasty though, and would be grand if mellowed out a bit.
