3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Silphium (2718) - East Lansing, USA - MAY 11, 2003
Pours orange, chock full (almost choked with) dark sediment. Floral aroma followed by a floral, hoppy flavor. Not very strong, however, and finishes with a bitter aftertaste.

Misty Golden pour with thick foamy head. Aroma is fresh, clean but not too impressive. A bit of hop and citrus on the palate...fairly light-weighted. This is probably just how pale ale tastes like, definitely not one of my favorite style.

Pours golden with creamy white head and sediment throughout. Smells malty and sweet. Flavors are citrus and sweet malts and a hoppy finish. Not bad.

Pours hazy gold into a shaker. Fluffy white head with excellent retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Mild resin aromas. Deep resin upfront turning to bitter grapefruit in the lasting finish.

Bell’s usually brews good junk. And this junk, makes my junk, look like junk. Or not. I would still prefer a Point Pale Ale or a Crazy Shirley’s, but if I was in a pinch (and ca$hed out of Blatz), I would hoist one of these again, even though the price is outrageous (you could have 24 Blatz for the price of 6 of these things!!!!!) Anyways I side with the 51% of American Mom’s who prefer Jif to Jiffy-Pop. Or do I? I am often confused in these gray times we call "sobriety". WHY ME GOD? Only Carl Pellonpaa can say for sure "Suomi Kutsu".

Dry aroma and golden pour leads to satisfying mouthfeel and a crisp taste. Smooth drinking beer.

Pours a cloudy gold, significant suspension, with a smallish white head that leaves a little soapy lace. Nose is bready, biscuity malt, a clean noble type hop aroma with some earth and lemon zest. Almost a cotton candy sweetness becomes evident eventually. Taste is more bitter than sweet, but no more than medium on either. Palate is between toward medium bodied, softly carbonated, smooth, with a lengthy bready finish. This is a nice, pleasant, understated brew that’s great for the warm weather. I just mowed the lawn, and this is hitting the spot. Has some substance, but also refreshes.

Pours hazy gold with little head that never the less leaves nice lacing. Aromas of straw and citrus. Taste adds some spice and grapefruit in the lightly bitter finish. Ok but not my fave from Bell’s.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a slightly hazy pale gold with an average white head. Aroma of florals, citrus, and malt. Taste is sweet malt, floral hops, grain, lemon, and spices. Good balance. Nice pale ale.
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 ryecatcher (71) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 7, 2012
Bottle. Pours a pale yellow, decent head retention. Relatively bland, finishes weak with some bitterness. Some bread, and a hint of hops (I expect more hops in a micro-brewed pale ale of any sort). Basically boring.
