DalzAle (474), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA Mar 22, 2009 On tap at Firkin Fest. Dark creamy pour, plenty of carbonation and a slight bitter aroma. Flavor was creamy chocolate, smoke and a little coffee. Another solid Bell’s offering! rmussman (905), California, USA Mar 20, 2009 Sampled in Lexington, Ky. A really good quality porter. Batch #8860 12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass produced a finger worth of head that settled to a thick lace on top of a black bodied brew. The lace slides down the glass as you drink the brew
Aromas of malty sweetness and some roastiness filled my head. The flavors are nice and balanced not to sweet not to bitter. This is a good porter, a really good feel in the mouth medium and creamy.
A very drinkable brew I could easily sit down to a couple of these , and if I saw it on tap I would go for it.
Beerlando (2283), Orlando, Florida, USA Mar 13, 2009 Draft at The Ravenous Pig. I’m glad to finally see this one down in Florida. The pour yields a lightly hazy, deep chestnut brown colored body with a lasting, khaki head of foam. Broken sheets of lace mark the glass. The nose shows a good deal of coffee roast, working nicely alongside rich chocolate, dark caramel, and roasted barley grain. Smooth as can be, the flavor follows suit. Coffee, caramel, cocoa, and vanilla all combine wonderfully. Hazelnut makes an appearance also, along with a helping of earthen hop notes. Medium-plus bodied, smooth and quaffable. It’s a really nice, ultra-balanced porter. Elwood (654), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Mar 12, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep brown color with a large tan head. The head is slow to dissipate and leaves behind nice lacing. Strong aromas with heavy chocolate and roasted malt notes along with some hints of coffee and wine. It has fine carbonation and a surprisingly light mouthfeel. Nice roasted notes on the palate with touches of coffee, caramel, and bitter chocolate. The hops are in excellent balance with the roasted malt. It also has a certain dry character to it in the finish. Not only is this one worth trying, it is worth keeping stocked in the fridge! SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Mar 11, 2009 12oz bottle; batch 8941. Dark red-brown with a medium, lasting light beige head. Rather light, but pleasing aroma of damp malt, roasted malt, chocolate, and mellow ground coffee beans. Sweet and malty, with light coffee and chocolate, and a woody, light bitterness. Medium-light bodied with a creamy feel and lower carbonation. Rounded, mellow character overall. Very drinkable stuff.
