Coffee, chocolate and malt galore. Very nice and smooth. Blackest hell. An excellent display of a porter.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUN 4, 2003 This beer has a very nice chocolate and coffee aroma. It poured a nice head that lasted a very long time and was filled with small to medium bubbles. It has a strong coffee taste with a mild after bite. It went down very smoothly. It has a dark black all but opaque at the bottom of the glass color.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: AUG 26, 2006 Replacing an earlier rating. Deep brown body with reddish highlights, thin off-white head. Rich roasted malt aroma. Flavor of strong roasted malts with dark chocolate, finishing quite bitter. Lacks any sense of sweetness to balance out the bitterness, and is a bit thin, but still quite good.

Dark out of the bottle with a chocolate milk head that subsided to a ring that lasted the entire way down the glass. Lots of chocolate and coffee in the nose. It reminded me of opening a fresh box of Coco-Puffs as a kid. Lots of bitter coffee in the flavor, with dark chocolate and sweeter, caramel flavors coming out as it warms. Very nice porter.

This is a wonderfully smooth porter with chocolate, cofee and roasted flavors. Whereas the Bell's stouts are special occasion show-stoppers this Bell's, like the Brown, is a great and satisfying everyday beer.

Dark brown and opaque with a nice tan head. Strong chocolate flavor. Some trademark Bell's breadiness. Very mild hop presence. Nice!

Dark brown, almost black. Alot of sediment. Some sediment was even stuck to the bottom of the bottle. Thick creamy long lasting head. Initial almost sour taste. Then coffee and malt flavors appeared. Very good dark beer. Very slight chocolate and smokey flavors.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This one is pretty good, with nice color and flavor. However, it seems as though Bells has taken the same approach with their porter, stout, and java stout, though in slightly different proportions with the coffee and chocolate. From a brewery of this caliber, I would expect a little more innovation.

Deep, dark, beautiful pour with an average beige head. Wonderful chocolatey aroma and flavorings. Felt a little thinner than the stouts, but still quite good.
