Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Nov 20, 2008 A very nice chocolaty beer with notes of peanuts and coffee as well. Very potent hop finish, especially for a Porter. Yet another in a long line of Bells winners I sampled this summer! obxdude10 (1546), Pottstown, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 20, 2008 This porter was a little disappointing. It was a little too light in body and a little too light on flavor. There were definitely some notes of chocolate and dark roasted coffee, but they were just a little too subtle. The finish was the best part of this beer. It offered the most as far as body and flavor were concerned. The tan head lasted only a few moments and left only a minimal amount of lacing around the glass. There really wasn’t much to the nose of this beer, either. Again, there were some small and subtle hints of chocolate, coffee and vanilla. But it just lacked any real noteworthy punch. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Nov 20, 2008 Pours a dark dark reddish black colour with a medium sized creamy tan head. Aroma is pleasent, very enticing and incredibly desert like. Taste is flavorful. Milk chocolate and peanut butter flavors. A big robust beer. Great taste all around. hombrepalo (726), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 18, 2008 Black with a small tan head. Aroma is of sweet chocolate, nuts, and coffee. Has a sweet chocolate taste that is complimented by roasted coffee notes. The malt character is solid in this brew. The chocolate flavor is pretty pronounced for a porter. Has a slightly bitter finish.
nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Nov 17, 2008 Bottle. Poured a dark brown color with a one finger tan head. Aroma of coffee and some roasted malt. Flavor was dry, with a coffee presence and a slight hop bitterness at the end. Creamy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Good beer. CanIHave4Beers (831), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Oct 30, 2008 A nice dark brown almost black beer with an good head and a little lace. Aromas of Coffee and a little hops. The flavor follows with the coffee, hops bitterness, a little chocolate. This is silky and nice to drink, very easily sessionable and pretty versatile. cblado (146), Wisconsin, USA Oct 29, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a deep opaque brown color with a thick tan head. Nice lacing as well. Aroma is roasted malt, very malty. Flavor is roasted malt, toast, with chocolate and coffee notes. Finishes with a hop flourish. Palate is medium-thick and very smooth. Overall a very good porter. FunkyBrewster (436), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 28, 2008 Pours a dark brown nearly black with a fluffy soft tan head. Aroma is heavy malty and sweet with roasted chocolate. A bit of sweet vanilla and woodiness. Flavor starts out with some bitter chocolate and some coffee notes. Quickly turns to sweet caramel and milky chocolate. A tiny bit of earthy wood as well before a quick and fairly dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Nice all around porter but a little lacking in complexity and depth.
