Oct 17, 2008 12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market in Charlottesville. Batch 8750. Pours a deep, dark brown with a huge medium frothy head. Nice lacing and retention. Straightforward roasted malt aroma with some caramel and hop notes. Taste is nutty, coffee, roasted malts and subtle fruity notes. Full bodied.

Oct 16, 2008 Poured from a 12oz bottle (Batch 8681) and served in an English pint glass. This beer poured a dark brown with a thick head of creamy tan foam that slowly faded away. Some spotty lacing was left around the glass. The aroma was made up of roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate, and light smoke. The flavor included a smooth blend of roast, chocolate, smoke, and coffee. A light hop bite at the finish kept things in check. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. Soft and silky smooth. A pretty standard porter, but highly quaffable. Makes a great session brew for the fall.

Oct 15, 2008 Bottle from Bello. Easy-drinking to the point of boring. Hits style guidelines to the same degree. Only enough dark roast/coal to placate; slight meaty char like a rauch (to its credit, never detected this in a porter before); not much chocolate; detectable buttery flavor/texture. Not my new lover.

Oct 9, 2008 Bottle from hellbilly. Thanks! Pours a nice dark brown with a frothy beige head. The aroma is husky dark malts, mild roast, and a touch of sweetness. The flavor is similar with a good dose of dark malts, some chocolate, and some light roast. The finish is a little dry and roasty with a moderate hop profile as well. Carbonation is medium, and the beer drinks smooth.

Oct 6, 2008 Dark brown with some amber highlights and an off-white head. Aroma is mild with notes of roasted malts, cocoa, vanilla, and nuttiness. Flavor is also mild, bordering on thin, although the flavor that is there is good- chocolate, vanilla, and some slight smokey roasted notes. Creamy mouthfeel is nice.
