Bottle. Dark brown pour. Really it’s just an average porter. Roasted malt, notes of chocolate and coffee. I had it side by side with founders porter, and founders was better.

Poured from bottle into Nonic Imperial Pint.
Exceedingly dark reddish-brown, essentially black. Some head and lacing.
Aroma of slightly sweet caramel and chocolate malts. Some roasty character. Smell is pretty subdued overall.
Semi-sweet roasted malt upfront, with drier roasted bitterness at end. Some coffee throughout. Little one dimensional but certainly tastes good.
Low to medium carbonation. Medium body and fairly smooth, but seems somewhat thin.
Middle of the road Porter. Drinkable enough. Like their Kalamazoo Stout, but with some of its unique character stripped away.

Slight chocolate and coffee flavors blended together perfectly. A wonderful brew!

UPDATED: SEP 26, 2011 Re-rate 9/26/11: Lovely roasty aroma. Coffee, cherries, hops. Pungent, persistent. Dark chocolate and coffee flavor. Very sweet, not a ton of viscosity. Nice lacing, handsome beer. Subtle and enjoyable. Original rating 10/25/09: Bottle from the Beeryard, tasted last winter, rating just added now. My first whiff of this beer was lagerlike, but a second returned everything to normal: roasty, coffee, fresh. Feel is a little smooth, but a little thin. Bitter roasted aftertaste. There is nothing specific about this beer to note, not in terms of flavor or any other aspect; it’s neither good nor bad.

Delicious, smooth, full-bodied taste with a somewhat bitter finish, Tastes and looks like quality. Probably would be great with chocolate.

On tap at Coasters. Pours dark brown, almost black, with a thin tan head. Roasted malt aroma. Coffee, dark chocolate, smoke, and roasted malt flavor. Very drinkable. This is amongst the best porters I have tried. Another great beer from Bell’s.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2009 Wow! Had this on draft for the first time at a local pub and I was amazed at how good it was. I have also enjoyed this in a standard 12oz. bottle. Bell’s has a pretty sweet-tasting porter, but the hops come through as well. Only Founder’s porter can compare and compete. Great job Bell’s.

Draught at Brixx Pizza. Finally getting around to rating this one. Dark brown with a small tan head. Roasted malts, coffee, light cocoa. Solid, if not very exciting. But that’s what a porter should be.
