KUEric (632), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA Feb 23, 2008 On Tap - Yet another strong showing for Bell’s. A deep, dark brown color with no head by the time it came to the table. A little bit mild in comparision to some other well liked porters, but I loved that about it. craftbeerdesign (731), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Feb 22, 2008 bottle - batch # 8126. pours a thin dark brown / light black with little head that disappears. some smoky malt aromas... not very strong out of the glass. Wonderful palate - nice blend of liveliness on the sides and a smooth rich and smoky top. It finishes with notes of roasted coffee. Very good porter, but I was kind of expecting more out of Bells with this one. DeadGuyFrank (347), http://westchesterbeer.com, USA Feb 18, 2008 Dry, opaque, malty good....You can really taste the ROASTED malt, and I mean ROASTED - really well made. Nice subtle chocolate undertones, great finsih and mouthfeel, true to the style - highly recommended. wilkie (1189), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Feb 18, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark, with ruby edges, and a medium off-white head, with decent retention and lacing. Aroma is smoke, sweet chocolate, and coffee. Flavor is similar, very robust, sweet, and has a tad bit of a dry finish. The chocolate especially stays for a while, and adds to the bitter finish. SynergyXJ (506), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA Feb 16, 2008 Bottle Black pour with decent tan head. Slightly roasted aroma. Pretty good typical porter, definitely good one to try. jaghouse (25), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA Feb 15, 2008 Updated: Feb 19, 2008A porter lite. If there is a refreshing porter this is it. Goes down smooth and just a slight chocolate taste. Update: caramel taste too and some fruit notes. More complex than originally thought. JFGrind (1346), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 11, 2008 The bitterness of Bell’s porter sets it apart from other porters I’ve sampled. Medium bodied, slight foam, roasted aroma. Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Feb 10, 2008 Sept. 2006 - Beer poured black as night (no highlights on edges), nice lacing. Aroma was faint roast with some soapiness (and yes, my glass was clean). The flavor was roasty/burnt malt with some chocolate. Mouthfeel was thin and really carbonated. Okay, but flavor was kind of bland and watery.
