Deep brown pour with a thin head that disappears quickly. Great roasted aroma with some coffee notes. Rich chocolate, caramel, roasted barley, and some toffee. Great mouthfeel. Rich but not overpowering. There was a bit of bitterness at the swallow, but I would guess that is from the roast and not hops. Really enjoyed it. Beerman6686 (1280), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

A deep, dark brown color with no head by the time it came to the table. A little bit mild in comparision to some other well liked porters, but I loved that about it. craftbeerdesign (744), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA

Wonderful palate - nice blend of liveliness on the sides and a smooth rich and smoky top. It finishes with notes of roasted coffee. Very good porter, but I was kind of expecting more out of Bells with this one. DeadGuyFrank (347), http://westchesterbeer.com, USA

Nice subtle chocolate undertones, great finsih and mouthfeel, true to the style - highly recommended. wilkie (1189), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 18, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark, with ruby edges, and a medium off-white head, with decent retention and lacing. Aroma is smoke, sweet chocolate, and coffee. Flavor is similar, very robust, sweet, and has a tad bit of a dry finish. The chocolate especially stays for a while, and adds to the bitter finish. SynergyXJ (506), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA

Goes down smooth and just a slight chocolate taste. Update: caramel taste too and some fruit notes. More complex than originally thought.
