ketchepillar (475), Viña del Mar, Chile Feb 8, 2008 Very roasty. Carbonation is little bit too lively and sharp for me; could be a little thicker as well. Some nuttiness in the finish too. Trying many bells brews makes me realize that they are often delicious combinations of each other; this one being part best brown, part kalamazoo. GJF (480), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA Feb 8, 2008 Yum. Dark black pour. Subtle aroma. Roasted flavor with a sharpness followed by a well-balanced dry finish. Did I say yum? dolemite77 (184), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Feb 7, 2008 Great porter. Pours almost black with a brown rim. great all around beer, but some items to note are the coffee aroma which is great... and the coffee taste is also prevalent. A chocolaty roasted flavor, with not much alcohol. The biggest strike against this beer would be the mouthfeel. It seems a little thin, with a little too much carbonation for this style. A porter is a hard to do beer in my opinion (er... hard to do well). This one might be one of the better porters I’ve ever had. carl4beer (394), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA Feb 4, 2008 12 oz. pours dark with tan head. aroma is subtle with a hint of roasted malt. mouthful is smooth with a crisp finnish. flavor is predominately roasted malt with nice hints of coffee. jeffwilliams11 (310), hooterville, Michigan, USA Feb 3, 2008 pours nice dark brown, small head that holds pretty well. very nice balance, smooth roasty flavors, little coffee aroma. very tasty. lweiberg (89), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Feb 2, 2008 Pretty good but lacking in the alcohol department and not quite thick and extravagant enough for my taste. Reminded me of a little less startling version of Two Hearted Ale, another very good Bell’s ale. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA Feb 2, 2008 Pours extremely dark - just one step below opaque. Big tan head off a very firm pour, but it falls fast. Mildly roasted nose. Touch of a sweet tone. Malt tones are there for sure. Flavor is hearty with mild roasted tones and pretty thick malt tones. It does have a nice thick consistency to it. Just no outlandish character, or anything remotely strikingly interesting for that matter. Feel is okay. A bit thin on the liquid feel for a stout and also has a less than impacting carbonation. It’s definitely drinkable, and worth trying. It just doesn’t bring anything overly interesting. mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Feb 1, 2008 Pours a dull brown with no head and a faint, chocolate malt aroma. Tastes very pleasant - cafe latte, milk chocolate, earthy & sweet with good bittering hops. Aftertaste is slightly roasty & dry. Carbonation is low but body is reasonably thick. This is quite a nice balanced porter.
