A dark ale for all occasions. A blend of dark malt gives this beer flavors of coffee and chocolate with some smokey roasted notes.

The bitterness of Bell’s porter sets it apart from other porters I’ve sampled. Medium bodied, slight foam, roasted aroma.

Sept. 2006 - Beer poured black as night (no highlights on edges), nice lacing. Aroma was faint roast with some soapiness (and yes, my glass was clean). The flavor was roasty/burnt malt with some chocolate. Mouthfeel was thin and really carbonated. Okay, but flavor was kind of bland and watery.

Very roasty. Carbonation is little bit too lively and sharp for me; could be a little thicker as well. Some nuttiness in the finish too. Trying many bells brews makes me realize that they are often delicious combinations of each other; this one being part best brown, part kalamazoo.

Yum. Dark black pour. Subtle aroma. Roasted flavor with a sharpness followed by a well-balanced dry finish. Did I say yum?

Great porter. Pours almost black with a brown rim. great all around beer, but some items to note are the coffee aroma which is great... and the coffee taste is also prevalent. A chocolaty roasted flavor, with not much alcohol. The biggest strike against this beer would be the mouthfeel. It seems a little thin, with a little too much carbonation for this style. A porter is a hard to do beer in my opinion (er... hard to do well). This one might be one of the better porters I’ve ever had.

Pretty good but lacking in the alcohol department and not quite thick and extravagant enough for my taste. Reminded me of a little less startling version of Two Hearted Ale, another very good Bell’s ale.
