MaltOMeal (642), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Jan 20, 2008 12 oz bottle shared at Foam Rangers club meeting. Pours a dark brown with an off-white head. The smell was coffee and some roasty malt. Taste was coffee with a little hoppiness to it, but subdued, not as strong a flavor of some other porters I’ve had. Mouthfeel was medium-to-thin with some bitterness to it. . zeke626 (301), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Jan 19, 2008 12 oz. bottle, batch 8209. Dark brown body with brown head. Aroma consists of cocoa malts with some nut and coffee aroma. Medium bodied, fizzy on the tongue initially. Chocolate and toffee flavors are predominant. Finishes sweet with a slight coffee taste. Not very complex, but well-balanced and drinkable. alobar (1006), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 19, 2008 Pours a deep dark brown with some reddish hues. Not much head. Nice aroma of roasted malts and coffee. Taste got more complex as the beer got warmer. Very nice. Snojerk321 (1917), San Diego, California, USA Jan 18, 2008 12oz bottle pours a a dark, murky brown with a small and creamy off white head with some spotty lacing. Nose of your average porter, chocolate, toffee and roasted malts. I guess I’m not a big porter guy, this was a good brew none the less. BigBeer45 (676), Troy, Michigan, USA Jan 15, 2008 Bottle, pours dark brown with a off-white head that left nice lacings, lots of roasted malt aromas, some nut fragrance, sweetness, faint coffee aroma and little nudges of carmel in the nose, taste is pretty much the same with a faint strong coffee astringent touch (this did not harm the rating at all), has a hoppy bright bite finish with a medium mouth feel, a good tasting porter. islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Jan 15, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Aroma of dark chocolate, mocha, tart coffee, cherry, cream, and chocolate cake. It’s a pleasant smell that makes its presence felt but isn’t overwhelming. Pours a dark brown, dark enough to appear opaque, although I believe the liquid is clear. Dark amber hue. Moderate amount of fluffy, dark beige or grayish tan head. Produces moderate amount of short-lasting lacing. Tart, tarry flavor of roasted coffee with cream. The taste improves upon multiple sips. It’s not complex, but it’s nice enough. Roasted coffee bitter aftertaste. Light body. Frothy in the palate. The bottle I sampled has been in my wine fridge for at least six months. I’m guessing that the aging was kind to it, and it could benefit from even more, although I admit that I have not tried this beer fresh. Overall, a pleasant surprise. Peregrinari (53), Washington, Washington DC, USA Jan 14, 2008 This is a nice beer with a somewhat smoky malt aroma with hints of coffee and a saltiness. Rich and black in color. Very opaque. The flavor is rich and smooth with smokiness and a slightly acrid bitterness that is not unpleasant. The finish is superb with a smooth and slightly slick feel and hints of cedar and an organic earthiness. Overall this is a very fine porter. Driftwood6 (214), USA Jan 13, 2008 On tap at Bell’s Eccentric Cafe. A nice porter-- nothing too exaggerated in taste or profile. Well balanced-- although I’m not big on roast malts in my porter.
