Creamy dark chocolate nose. Simply excellent balance between sweet and dry, burnt and creamy. The burnt character wins out in the end with a warm toasty finish. AR (423), Georgia, USA

It is getting harder to find a plain old porter in my area. This one, fortunately, does fit the bill and I’ve ended up depending on it over the last year or so. Poured into a Bell’s pint glass, brown but not opaque, it gets an initial smallish head that fades in 30 seconds to just a hint around the rim. It doesn’t jump up and grab me at first taste, nothing stands out, but it warms slowly into a vaguely coffeeish malty treat, which I find surprisingly sessionable notwithstanding. The aftertaste is where you notice some hops, with a few sourish notes around the edges. I recommend this one for drinking with "beer food", especially. Pours very dark brown with a gargantuan rocky beige head that remains foamy and leaves tons of lace. Aroma is smoky and roasty with a little chocolate. Tastes a little astringent with smoke, chocolate, coffee, and oatmeal. Finishes surprisingly smooth and clean with plenty of roasty bitterness.
