estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA Aug 11, 2007 Dark reddish-brown body, big off-white head, smoky espresso nose. Thin body, brown bread, some coffee and chocolate, moderate sweetness, mild bitterness. Sort of a smooth finish. Not bad, not great. RedXIII (127), Powell, Ohio, USA Aug 11, 2007 Another solid effort from Bells but a bit disappointing compared to some of their premium brews. I found the smoky expresso flavor was weak compared to some other porters I’ve had. I noticed a nice touch of caramel in the finish which made the aftertaste quite creamy and pleasant. JFURYCAT (782), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 8, 2007 Part of my mixed sixer from Chips in Outer Banks, NC. Smokey ash is evident with some nice bitter chocolate malts going on. Coffee-like pour. Somewhat chewy but a bit light for me. markas101 (541), Fargo, North Dakota, USA Aug 7, 2007 33 cl bottle, Fargo. Deep brown almost black clolour, then head. Chocolate malt aroma. Smooth, creamy texture. Very enjoyable. lampeno420 (321), Zeeland, Michigan, USA Aug 5, 2007 Updated: Feb 16, 2008 nice and dark, and on tap from bell’s its really cold as well. just a little bit of chocolate taste to it, but i could smell it more. very refreshing difference from all the hops i had today. joshwilfong (769), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Aug 3, 2007 dark brown with roasted malt flavor and hints of caramel. a roasted finish, good overall SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Aug 3, 2007 In the bottle from HyVee CB. Pours a dark brown (almost black, except for a reddish purple cast). Huge beige head. Reticulated lacing. Roasted leathery aroma. Thinner than I expected. Great roasted taste at the finish lasts a long time on the tongue. Not really as good a porter as I had hoped. The visuals are the best part. Fairly discernable sweetness to balance the roastedness. Braincage1 (137), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 2, 2007 Bottle. A deep red almost makes this beer look black. Topped by a thin tan head. Im not big on the aroma of this one - like the Aecht rauchbier it just seems to have too much of smoked meat aroma which instead makes the roasted coffee smell like soy sauce. With the flavor they managed some restraint but that soy sauce presence is hard to ignore. Give me some fried rice and we have a meal.
