BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Jul 1, 2007 Dark brown with a hint of amber color. Foamy brown head. Faint sweet chocolate nose. Light chocolate and coffee body. Smooth finish. GG (1612), NorCal, California, USA Jun 29, 2007 This was an exceptional porter. Had to beat Bells with this one. Wow. A nice chocolate aroma with a good dose of toffee and hazelnuts. Appearance was a deep dark brown, nice khaki colored two-finger head. Mouthfeel was creamy, supple and smooth. Flavor had a two-part harmony of chocolate and sweet coffee going, with a nutty kick keeping it going. Outstanding porter. Nothing heavy or overbearing, but just a really kickass beer. gmcase (113), Indiana, USA Jun 28, 2007 Updated: Jul 22, 2007Bottle. Best beer of the night, 7/28 at the chatterbox jazz club where I was playing. Chocolate flavors end in roast flavor of coffee. Not terribly complex but very enjoyable. mtchyg (10), East Lansing, Michigan, USA Jun 23, 2007 Another hit with Bells... chocolate, malty tones. Nice color, nice flavor. Bells just seems to make a good beer, especially their darker brews frankenkitty (1900), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Jun 23, 2007 Had this plenty of times at home in Chicago, but sadly not as of late, so I seized the opportunity to grab a couple Porters when I found them in Michigan. Pours a dark, speia/mahogany body under a sand-colored head which settles slow. Dry, chocolate malt aroma is semi-sweet with additional notes of raisin. Thick and creamy in the mouth, the flavor of Cocoa Puffs comes across first, deepening to thicker chocolate syrups with a mild, roasty bitterness at the end. I am reminded why "Porter" was my favorite style when I first joined this site. Quite delicious.

minch25 (346), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 12, 2007 Updated: Aug 21, 2007Near black pour. Typical dark malt aroma, and a hint of that acidity that I’ve come to associate with porters. Very dry flavor, some roastiness, ashiness even. Something like chewing on straight coffee grounds. Bells - you can do better than this. DarkMagus (433), San Jose, California, USA Jun 10, 2007 A very dark brown color with a tan head that settles into a thin layer of bubbles on the surface. Great dark roasted barley aroma with elements of roasted nuts, coffee, cocoa, yeast, and toasted bread. Rich, complex flavors of dark roasted malt, caramel, some hops, and a bit of cocoa. Fairly sweet, but balanced by a dry, bitter hoppiness. Palate was slightly sticky, but finished quite dry. Really easy to drink, this would be a great session beer for me. It’s a shame it’s so hard for me to get! purduebacchus (39), USA Jun 4, 2007 Pours dark with a thick brown head. Arpoma has notes of roasted malt and coffee. Similar flavor with then addition of chocolate. Medium body.
