beernovice39 (241), South Carolina, USA Jul 29, 2009 Smoky in scent and flavor. Has the misfortune of following two great porters last night. Kinda light on flavor with a tint of carbonation. 41cubs (131), , New Jersey, USA Jul 29, 2009 Really enjoyed this. Dry tobacco, pumpernickel toast and milk chocolate aroma. Dark chocolate, cigar box, light herbs and slightly sour dairy is what I get from the taste. Body is english style porter, in the light to medium range with a quick finish. Great session porter here with food or alone. Thanks Bells. 2009 12 oz. Narnad (682), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Jul 26, 2009 Pours a dark brown, black in color with a big, fluffy, bubbly, tan head. Aroma has a very robust roasted malt note, a pretty nutty character as well, a light chocolate note comes through toward the end. Flavor starts off with a slight sweet chocolate note, moves into a very toasted caramel malt note, light smokey note and finishes with a bitter coffee flavor. Smooth flavor and perfect mouth feel for a porter really makes this brew a terrific beer. Shakesbeere (52), Massachusetts, USA Jul 25, 2009 A nice dark body. Aroma of roast, coffee, chocolate. Initial flavor is roasted coffee, then develops into a dark fruity taste -- either fig or prune. Smooth palate and very rich. Finish is slightly bitter -- a mixture of hops and bitter chocolate. I really like this porter -- would have again. ksurkin (355), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Jul 25, 2009 12oz bottle, batch #9022, from total wine in norfolk. pours a dark, chestnut brown with a thin, eggshell head and bubbly lacing. aroma is very nice with roasted coffee, bitter dark chocolate, some vinous fruit, prune, and a hint of ash. flavor is quite good as well with big dark chocolate, roast coffee, smoke, dried fig, nutty trail mix, a hint of berry, and earthy hops on the back end. palate was smooth and medium boded with solid carbonation. overall, solid, sessionable porter. glennmastrange (809), hobe sound, Florida, USA Jul 25, 2009 Tap. Moderate dark chocolate and dark coffee for the malt, light resin for the hops, light to moderate earth for the yeast, with a hint of tar in the background. Head is creamy, light brown with excellent lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is a dark muddy brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and moderately acidic, and the long finish is lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium, creamy, with a lively carbonation. This is one of the richest Porters I’ve had, and a great tasting beer. gpekar (221), Maryland, USA Jul 20, 2009 Batch #8253 bottled Dec 4, 2007. Poured an opaque dark brown with a light brown head that dropped quickly to just a film. The aroma was very good with scents of chocolate, roasted malts and a bit smokey. There was a creamy texture to the beer and the flavor was of dark chocolate and coffee with a good amount of a smokey/roasted taste. On the finish there was a good bitterness that came from a dark chocolate flavor that lasted well. Excellent beer! JCB (1716), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jul 8, 2009 On tap at Alivia’s, Durham. Been a while since I had this, and was delighted to find this pint served at the appropriate temperature. Nice aroma, not overly complex but certainly hinting at the pleasures of this very fine porter. Roasted malts, yeah, but there’s more depth than that, with chocolate, smoke, and a hint of molasses in there too. Lovely creamy mouthfeel, and some superb bitter flavors coming through. Smooth, complex, and sessionable all at once.
