theisti (1638), Leawood, Kansas, USA Apr 25, 2007 Bottle. Batch 7784. Pour was almost all black, with a medium tan head. Aroma was a bit blah, and what was there almost had a dirtiness to it. Taste was decent porter, though nothing to exciting. Nice balance to this one, but I like a bit more roast to my Porter. A touch thin as well. bdjames29 (272), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Apr 21, 2007 Bottle at Dilly Deli. A bit of a disappointment for me as I was hoping for more flavor and body. That being said, this was a solid, balanced porter but I just thought it was lacking any serious character - not a repeat purchase. Dark brown pour with a medium body and a thin quickly diminishing head. GL Ed Fitz blows this porter out of the water. Pass. 00cobraR (1096), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Apr 14, 2007 Pours out a deep black color with a small tan head. aroma is malty and full of coffee and some choco to it. flavor is as many have said prior, very much the same as the scent. Over all another great offering from a damn good brewery. BillVanE (19), Zeeland, Michigan, USA Apr 14, 2007 Very malty aroma with the slightest hints of mixed fruits and smokiness . flavor is a very close to what it smells like with a biter bite at the end. probstk (1005), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Apr 10, 2007 Bottle shared by Lubiere (merci!!) served in a goblet, cold. App.: Very dark brown, clear, small grey-tan head.
Aroma: Starts almost briney (olives), light smoke, ashen dark malts, coffee and dark chocolate, slightly metallic and tangy.
Palate: Medium body, kinda powdery, somewhat sharp carbonation.
Flav.: A touch of cardboard, restrained smokey coffee and burnt malts; dry, feels full enough but austere. Lingers slightly.
I was under whelmed, not sure if was me or the bottle.
JonR888710 (999), Cochabamba, Bolivia Apr 9, 2007 Pours a dark brown/mahogany. Head is tan and not too large. After bubbles sud down, there is aroma of caramel malts, coffee and chocolate. Enticing, but not ultra seductive. Taste is same, solid chocolate malt and roasted java hops. Nothing over the top though or wickedly exciting. A benchmark porter really; something I’d recommend to a friend if they wanted to understand the porter style. ogglethorp (882), Ohio, USA Apr 8, 2007 Tap. Pours dark, dark brown some light manages to poke through, with a smallish beige colored head. Roasted malts, some coffee, hints of chocolate dominate the aroma. Flavor is just like the aroma. Palate is medium bodied, medium carbonation, finishes bitter. Rock solid. VeloVampire (483), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 6, 2007 12 oz bottle, courtesy of StompBrockmore - pours dark brown, not black, with a small tan head that dissipates rather quickly, and there are some suspended yeast particles as well.. Aroma very roasty and sweet, chocolatey and vinous. Yum. Flavour has a full roasted malt quality which imparts flavours of cocoa and coffee. Smooth and creamy in the mouth, and robust as well. The floating yeast contributes a light breadiness which nicely offsets the thick darkness. Faint notes of smoke in the finish, along with a lactic sweetness. Excellent plain porter done very, very well.
