DeuceDeuceOU (51), Athens/Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jan 26, 2007 A slightly mild porter, which is what I’ve been immersed in over the winter. I thought it was fantastic. Just the right amount of coffee/chocolate, and a little roast.. As would be expected, the commercial description is spot on. Everything was milder that the typical porter, which may be why I’m so excited about it right now. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jan 25, 2007 The color was a dark chocolate. The head was thick, creamy, and off-white. The aroma was roasty, malty, and acohol. The flavor was roasty, malty, slightly bitter, and dark. The palate was carbonated with a bitter finish. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jan 25, 2007 Trade with brewblackhole. The color was typical, dark with some light coming through, head was medium and tan. The aroma was a bit subdued, what did come through was roast and coffee, so mostly burnt aromas. The flavor was roasted as well, with some earthiness and hints of cofee. The flavor was subdued too. The palate was bunrt and a little on the full side. The finish was a tad thin. Overall, lacked complexity and upfront flavor. Needed a little boost in every area. Still solid and a good session brew. StompBrockmore (300), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 21, 2007 Updated: Mar 3, 200712oz. bottle - pours very deep dark brown, pretty much black actually, with some transparency only when held up against a light. Aroma is of chocolate and dark roasted malts. Some sweetly fruity notes as well. Could use a touch more robustness in the nose. Taste is much more intense, with a full roasted flavour of coffee, smooth chocolate and dark malt. A touch of that typical Bells bready, yeastiness compliments this nicely. Wonderful, creamy texture in the mouth. A tiny bit of smoke in the finish. Otherwise, this is a standard porter flavour-wise, but a very good, solid one. Leaves a lingering, roasty aftertaste. It’s light body makes this an incredibly drinkable porter as well. Another winner from Bells, probably my favourite U.S. brewery. stevec (19), Galena, Illinois, USA Jan 20, 2007 Tap: Full sized head, light aroma. Strong roasted flavor with light coffee on the palate. Great standard for a porter. Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Jan 14, 2007 Decent sized rocky light brown head. Nice and creamy on top. Roasted grains, chocolate and coffee in the aroma. Very dark brown in color. A bunch of chunky floaters in there also. Lots of roasted grains again and a bit of coffee. A bit of dryness and and a late hint of fizzy sourness. Kind of light bodied. Finish is tangy with a lingering roastyness. A pretty good porter. Would have liked a little more body though. Trooper11 (464), Suffolk, Virginia, USA Jan 13, 2007 12 oz bottle. pours dark brown looks oily, very thin with small foamy tan head. Aroma is roasted expresso, flavor is a bit of chocolate, roasted. Very smooth, easy to drink, light bodied. demitriustown (689), Shelby Township, Michigan, USA Jan 13, 2007 Aroma is hints of espresso and chocolate, a bit of caramel, and some roasted malts. Appearance is a black pour with a medium sized tan head that diminishes quickly. Flavor is quite big malt notes, chocolate, caramel notes, roasted nuts, and a light coffee flavor. Palate is bitter but does not stay around for long. Overall, Nice tasting but a somewhat thin Porter is what holds this brew back from being on of the elite of the style.
