detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Jan 13, 2007 Pours a deep dark brown, topped by just shy of an inch of tan foam. Decent but not spectacular lacing. Nice carmel-chocolate-roasted malty aroma.
Where to start? Its bittersweet chocolate. Its dark, scorched coffee. And roasted grains. But smooo-ooo-oooth. A nice spicy hop bite in the finish. Superb mocha aftertaste.
Medium body, not quite moderate carbonation. strangaj (229), West Chester, Ohio, USA Jan 12, 2007 Updated: Jan 28, 2007Pours a pure brown with no head. Has a strong aroma of coffee with a hint of chocolate malt. I’m not particularly fond of the taste, which is too malty and bland with a bitter finish. I’d go for Sierra Nevada’s port over this one every time. Foxbush (452), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jan 10, 2007 Updated: Aug 23, 2008This was an excellent porter. I found this at the Capital Ale House. The aroma of coffee and chocolate were evident at my first sniff. The flavors of coffee and chocolate were also present at each sip. This was a very smooth beer with no bitter tastes. The color was a deep black and with a smallish head that disappeared. Enjoyed another in a bottle on October 20th. I will stay with earlier comments. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jan 9, 2007 Pours a dark black color with a thick tan head that dissipates over time. Decent lacing. A tad bit of chocolate in the aroma along with some roastiness. Chocolate flavors are the first I notice with every sip later giving way to some overdone coffee bean. Mouthfeel is a little thinner than I expected or wanted. Decent porter. CigarsLoveBeer (153), Illinois, USA Jan 8, 2007 Bottle: Dark, Dark body, lots of tan head. Sweet chocolate, hops, with notes of cherry/currant and grape mixed in the aroma. Creamy flavor at entry in mouth. Then the hops and some metalic notes hit, followed by an espresso and dry hop finish that is not very stong, but lingers quite nicely, with hints of licorice mixed in. Not bad, but I remember it being better... b33r (363), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jan 7, 2007 Dark brown in color with a medium light brown head. Flavor was okay, but very light. Just a little bit roasty flavored with quick finish- very smooth. orville (160), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA Jan 6, 2007 I love porter beer and this is a porter thru and thru. The last thing you’ll drink is the head and the first thing you’ll remember when you feel in the mood for the style is this. The taste is smooth and robust. The only thing good about living in the midwest is our great beer; the finest in America. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Jan 5, 2007 Bottle @ Coles Buffalo, NY. Dark brown with tan head. Coffee, chocolate &^ roasty. Very enjoyable & I put it right up there with Smuttynose
