luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA Dec 15, 2006 Bottled. 7557. Beer is very dark red-brown, almost opaque, with an average-sized, off-white, frothy, diminishing head.

The aroma is good. Before the dust settles on the pour, there’s an intriguing sparkling little note of anise/sasafrass. Settles into a rich, creamy nose that’s malty with moderate notes of roasted grain, toasted nuts, mellow chocolate, cafe au lait; Hoppy with a trace of mint/wintergreen; Yeasty with a light note of basement; Miscellaney include a moderate note of root beer/sasafrass, traces of oak, anise and underripe banana.

The flavor is lightly acidic, lightly bitter, moderately sweet with a longish, lightly sweet, trace bitter finish. Very smooth and easy-going.

The body is medium, the texture is watery-velvety and the carbonation is lively.

Simple combo of creamy and quirky—but it hits the spot for me! zootfinster (179), Chicago, Illinois, USA Dec 13, 2006 Updated: Dec 4, 2008I like porters. They are among my favorites and Bells Porter is one of my favorite of favorites, A nice dark pour. Malty but not overwhelming even a bit crisp. A beer one can drink several of at a siting and enjoy until the very end when you fall on the ground. DJC (238), USA Dec 11, 2006 Rich, brown color, with a quickly disappearing tan head. Respectable lacing, though. Dark chocolate and smoke aroma. Initial flavors consisted of dark chocolate and roated malts, and then finish was dominated by smokey notes (kind of like the Commercial Description). A nice porter, but not my favorite. dkoonce (880), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Dec 7, 2006 Bottle conditioned. Dark brown, with a 1 inch fizzy brown head. A sweet roasted malt aroma, with some chocolate notes. Light body, with roasted malt, nutty flavor. Leaves a bit of a sour taste in the mouth. undsioux7 (553), Cologne, Minnesota, USA Dec 3, 2006 Pours dark brown with a decent head. Coffee and chocolate aroma. Nice palate.
grimreeser (795), Minnesota, USA Dec 3, 2006 Pours dark brown with a decent head. Coffee and chocolate aroma. Nice palate. LinusStick (1830), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 1, 2006 A great porter indeed. Looks like a thicker Coca Cola. Beautiful coffee/chocolate taste throughout. You don’t drink this beer. You immerse in it. There are so many flavors going on from sip to swallow that your taste buds may become confused. No worry. Have a few of these on a cold night and relax MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Nov 30, 2006 Batch 7611. Pours dark brown/black with medium head. Head leaves some lacing.
