| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 31, 2009 mmmmmm, yummmm, good porter. Poured with a tan, foamy, frothy, creamy, textured head and a little lace. Color is a very dark mahogoney with cherry highlights. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, malt, a little toastiness, and a hint of dark ripe fruit such as dates or prunes. Flavor’s about the same. Great body; nice and creamy not too much so. Very good finish. Session beer for sure. Maddog (234), Kettering, Ohio, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | May 27, 2009 Not one of my favorite porters. In fact I am sort of shocked by the thin body and lack of flavor and complextity. Maybe, I got an old one. Pours a dark brown with a small, yet lingering head. This porter had some roasted malts, but any other comments on the flavor of this beer would be me just making up stuff (like so many on this site). This just doesn’t seem like Bell’s. italianjohn (346), Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | May 25, 2009 12 oz bottle. Not bad on the aroma, though there could be more to it. A good amount of roasted notes with roasted nuts, grains, coffee, and chocolate, also light bonfire, minor cola, and a hint of background hops. Pour really wasn’t too bad either with a good pillowing, dark cream head, with nice retention, medium appearing body, and dark mahogany in color. However, the overall taste and feel for this beer is quite disappointing coming from Bells. Way too much carbonation and that crisper watered down feel for a beer of this style. The flavors really aren’t bad, but they are very underwhelming and mostly standard. There’s also too much of that malted cola flavor note that I don’t like to see on beer like this either. Other notes include roasted coffee, dark grain malts, minor candy chocolate, a subtly nuttiness, some medium sweet fruits, and again a backing hop bitterness that does not assert itself properly. Everything doesn’t really seem to come together quite right either. With all that said, its not a terrible beer, but it makes me sad knowing what Bells is capable of. chicagobears (336), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 22, 2009 Black pour with a tan retaining head. Aromas of roasted malts. Flavors roasted coffee and chocolate. Not much of a hop presence. Tastes a bit watered down. Something like a porter light. It needs a little more "umph", like say Anchor’s porter. Not bad, but below the Bell’s standard that I’ve come to expect. Their stouts are much better. dutch23mp (161), Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 17, 2009 12oz bottle taste the roasted malts and chocolate perfectly balanced not as heavy as some of the other porters I have had. Smooth and lasting on the palete, finish is about the same as the start.
