A dark ale for all occasions. A blend of dark malt gives this beer flavors of coffee and chocolate with some smokey roasted notes.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip. Bellís Porter pours a slightly thin looking mahogany brown color with a modest, creamy, off-white cap that is surprisingly resilient and leaves levels of lace down the glass. The aroma is mostly roasted malt, but there are noticeable traces of prunes and plums in there, as well as a dark chocolate presence. Each sip starts out with a nice sweetness, which is mostly composed of molasses. A blended dark fruit presence of prunes and plums add to the sweet flavor. Roasted malts, unsweetened dark chocolate, and just a hint of coffee come in to impart a bitter flavor in place of the sweetness toward the end. The body is right in the middle for the style, with a slightly fuller, creamy carbonation that the usual porter. It is somewhat sticky from the sweetness. I did not totally connect with this offering from Bells, but it is definitely easy to drink.

Dark. Creamy lacey head. Great aroma of dark berry, rich resiny coffee, milk chocolate. Some floral. Same in taste, dry finish. Smooth creamy, more chocolate than coffee, berry, mild cola. Sweet smoked, cherry, on the medium with sweetness and less robust than the average porter, less dry also but balanced and I favor porters more like this. .Citrus, herbal. Mild tang. Nice.

Bottle. Roasted barley aroma with notes of chocolate and coffee. Pours very dark brown with a thin light brown head that has little retention but good lacing. Starts with chocolate malt and roasted barley flavors with a thinner body than expected. Finishes dry with a large amount of roasted coffee joining and overpowering the other flavors and settling on the palate after each sip. Decent porter, but the big coffee in the finish is not appealing to my palate.

From bottle, the pour is dark with little light penetration, the head is light chocolate brown and quickly thins. The aroma is roasted grains and chalky. The taste very dark roasted, smokey. I am missing the subtle flavors the roasted/smokey notes are very strong. The finish is similar. The mouthfeel is medium to thick with a strong carbonation.
