Aroma - Roasted malts, coffee, whiffs of chocolate, distant peppery spice. Appearance - Deep, ruby tinged brown pour under a tall, creamy beige head, spotty, stringy lace. Flavor - Burnt sugar lends some sweetness up front, bitter contributions from both dark roasty malt and some spicy, earthy hops are more prominent. Palate - Medium to full body and light carbonation combine in a pleasant chewiness with easy drinkability. Overall - A very nice porter with good balance and combination of flavors. piscator34 (1137), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 27, 2005 Very dark brown in colour with a tan head and light carbonation. The aromas are of dark crystal malt, some roasted grains, dark chocolate, and pencil shavings. There are some very assertive roasted nut flavors, along with notes of alcohol, dark fruit, and chocolate. Long finish. Generally, I like my porters a bit more mellow, but I still found this one to be quite satisfying. Gregis (1136), Shawnee, Kansas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 12, 2007 Pours a deep, opaque brown, almost black, with a small, creamy, light brown head. The aroma is of roasted coffee and toffee with a fruity raisin undertone. The mouthfeel is a bit thin and soft becoming almost flat rather quickly. The flavor is dominated by roasted coffee, with light bittersweet chocolate. I also detect a slight fruity flavor, like cherries, at the malty and slightly dry finish. I found this to be a very tasty porter, and now, after reading a few other reviews, I find it interesting to see how different people find so many different things in this beer. A great after-dinner beer and definitely one that I’ll recommend to friends. Kaya161 (1129), San Diego, California, USA

Excellent drinking porter, nice and robust with roasted malt being the big character. Enough bitterness from hops to bring it around. Nice. SMooth. Smice. ehhdayton (1115), USA

Very deep dark red/brown color with a light tan head. Lots of roasted maltiness, a good amount of coffee, a little chocolate and some smokiness. Roast theme continues in the flavor, dry, more coffee and a bitterness in the finish, thanks Trey. ꀖ)
