A dark ale for all occasions. A blend of dark malt gives this beer flavors of coffee and chocolate with some smokey roasted notes.

Draft at Khyber Pass. Dark brown pour that started with a fair amount of tan foam. Good showing of lace. Unusual Porter. Slighter body than expected but not watery. Spicy roasted brown malts. Mild espresso. Toasted barley. Plum pudding. Black currants. Faint hints of smoke, vinyl and asphalt. Semi-dark spicy finish. More refined but less adventurous.

Outstanding and very subtle aroma, the hops make it espresso instead of just coffee. Also detecting a hint of coconut and smoke but nothing in the aroma is screaming at you, it’s very gentle. Dark brown on the color with a booming tan head that has lots of staying power and produces plenty of lacing. Burnt caramel on the taste and bone dry. Light-medium bodied with pinpoint carbonation. An extremely well made beer. I do favor the English style porters a little more just because of the malt/hops balance but this is outstanding.

Dark Brown to appearance with light tan head. Earthy hop, bread and grain aroma. Slight sweetness to taste. Light roasted flavor. Medium body lightly carbonated. Slightly biter aftertaste. Well balanced flavor and aftertaste. Smooth wet drink. Not overly alcohol drying.

Cocoa, earthy hops, mild ashy smoke, lingering roasty/nutty dry finish. Could use a bit more weight to it.

Poured from a 12oz bottle, six pack from the local Harris Teeter. Appearance is a deep dark pour with a big tan head. Aroma is fairly subtle with malt and chocolate. Taste follows the nose, but is quite complex despite being pretty light in body; chocolate, coffee, and lightly smoked notes compliment each other. Palate is medium. Overall, a good choice, but I was expecting a bit more because of the brewer.

Draught at Archive Beer Boutique, West End, Brisbane. Poured an opaque black with a one-finger tan dense foam head that diminished quickly to a collar that laced OK. Aroma of dark chocolates and coffee. Taste initially sweet followed by strong roasted grain. Heavy body. Sweet caramel fading to a slight roasted bitterness on the finish.

Nicely done porter. Smokey, charred wood, bitter chocolate. Very robust porter with a complex offering. Well done.
