COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A dark ale for all occasions. A blend of dark malt gives this beer flavors of coffee and chocolate with some smokey roasted notes.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2004 I really do not like bells. All of their beers, including this, have a distinct and foul flavor.

So far, Bell's seems to have a good track record, and this porter is no expection.

Dark brown with ruby highlights and a small tan head. Roasty aroma with chocolate and a hint of acid. Medium-thin palate, almost without carbonation. Flavor is a little too acidic for me. It has some nice roast, coffee and chocolate notes, but they are overwhelmed by the acidic sourness until the finish, when it finally becomes very pleasant. Kalamazoo knows stouts, but their porter is a little off of my taste. I will stick to their stout.

really no more than an average beer and not up to par with the quality or outstanding quality of most of the other beers of theirs i've had. a good choice if the surprisingly roasty kalamazoo stout is too much for you, but real seekers of personality must look elsewhere.

Very dark brown body with an attractive tan foamy head. Leaves a ton of lacing. Has a chocolate aroma with notes of sour milk. Exessive carbonation stings the tongue a bit. Light coffee flavor with what sharp hop/roast bitterness. Woody, smokey aftertaste. A very servicable porter.

Very dark brown, bordering on black. Opaque. Head is initially large and light-brown in color, though it drops quickly. Chocolate, pine needles, and coffee bean aroma. Roasty qualities come out in the flavor, along with a slight smokiness and bittersweet chocolates. Finish is bittersweet, slightly metallic (copper) and very short lived. Rather thin body, slightly watery. Moderately carbonated.

Falls right around the weak 7/10 part of the grading curve. Smoky aroma, light on the palate, definitely not as heavy as the Edmund Fitzgerald. (Is there a pun hidden somewhere in this?) I didn’t pick up any particularly distinct flavor characteristics here.
