A dark ale for all occasions. A blend of dark malt gives this beer flavors of coffee and chocolate with some smokey roasted notes.

Begins like a stout, finishes like Miller Lite. All in all, a decent brew, however.

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2005 Round malts offer chocolate smoke and roasted coffee beans…Nascent DMS undermines the back roastiness and bitterness...Fruity and well-built, but nowhere near Fuller’s or Anchor’s in my 2 experiences with it so far...

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2006 Replacing an earlier rating. Deep brown body with reddish highlights, thin off-white head. Rich roasted malt aroma. Flavor of strong roasted malts with dark chocolate, finishing quite bitter. Lacks any sense of sweetness to balance out the bitterness, and is a bit thin, but still quite good.

Bottle: Malty, lite chocolate, smokey ash nose. Great reddish brown color. Roasty, bitter chocolate and coffee flavors. Creamy, smokey, dry finish. thought it faded a little quick. Seem to remember it stronger when I was in Ann Arbor, though my taste have grown since then. A good porter. Thanks PsychProf.

Immense thanks to BeanDip for hooking me up with this particular beer; raters like this make this site so very enjoyable!
Pours a nearly opaque body, some amber shines through along the edges; a rich caramel head, leaves behind a strong lacing. The aroma is rather meek, but I pick up on notes of chocolate. The flavor is also rather subdued, deeply kilned barley, nice hints of toffee, a chocolate coffee likeness, a fizzy cola suggestion. This was a rather young specimen, I think the other bottle that was recently given to me by BigBadBear63 is much much older, it has different style labeling and everything; possibly it may have matured and become more full bodied?
Overall, not what I had anticipated. I was wishing for a more complex and pronounced porter; however, this is a damn fine and drinkable beverage!

Bottle: slight soapiness in the aroma. A little roast. Typical porter look. Some chocolate, but mostly roasty flavor. Pretty nice.

Nice and smooth malty porter. Rather dark, but not robust like SN or Anchor. This is milder, sort of like Wild Goose. Creamy, easy drinking and damned nice.

Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread, roasted grain/nuts, caramel), lightly hoppy (herbs, flowers). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Could almost pass for a nicely bittered brown ale...toasty/nutty, and not very roasty or chocolatey. Pleasant and quaffable though.

Nice brown color, small tan head that faded quickly leaving a slight lace behind.Mildly malty aroma with a bigger emphasis on some sweet fruit, possibly lemon, and hops come through nicely.Malty flavor with a mild caramel and fruit coming through as well as the hops but there fairly mild. Not a bad brew but i think i could do with a little less fruit flavor and a little more of a stronger malt presence. Thanks go to Nexxus for sending this brew my way.
