4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 VeloVampire (616) - Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 6, 2007
12 oz bottle, courtesy of StompBrockmore - pours dark brown, not black, with a small tan head that dissipates rather quickly, and there are some suspended yeast particles as well.. Aroma very roasty and sweet, chocolatey and vinous. Yum. Flavour has a full roasted malt quality which imparts flavours of cocoa and coffee. Smooth and creamy in the mouth, and robust as well. The floating yeast contributes a light breadiness which nicely offsets the thick darkness. Faint notes of smoke in the finish, along with a lactic sweetness. Excellent plain porter done very, very well.

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2009 Bells is a phenomenal brewery and this offering is no exception. Pours dark brown, almost black, with a one-finger tan head. Coffee and chocolate on the nose. Palate is medium. Flavors of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts. Fairly long and satisfying finish.

Great smoky tobacco flavor. Slightly bitter finish. Will definitely get this one again.

Aroma of fudgy chocolate, roasted almonds, coffee and a tough of herbal hops. Appearance is black with thin, creamy tan head. Flavor started primarily with roasted flavors, moved into chocolate and had a slight herbal hop finish. Palate was creamy, but became more bubbly/chewy before dissipating. A really nice porter, one of the best I’ve had.

Damn good porter.rec’d in trade from beerbill thx!!)..dark brown pour with tan head. Aroma of chocolate, espresso and anything else good! Taste was very smooth; much roastedness up front with chocolate and some coffee flavoring. Palate was a 4; smooth/silk/slightly creamy.
Will have to hunt down more!

Solid outing for Bell’s. Purchased an individual bottle from the local World Market. Upon opening, strong notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Pours a dark, opaque brown almost black, with a thick, pillowy tan head. Texture is thick and heavy, both sweet and bitter on the palate. Great finish of chocolate. Very similar to Great Lakes’ Ella Fitzgerald. Thumbs up, overall

12 oz bottle from PA. Pours a dark brown/mahogany color with a light tan head. Nice slight toasted notes balanced with some caramel and coffee notes. Medium body with a slightly smooth mouth feel. Great sweet malty notes up front with a bit of caramel that give way to slight burnt coffee and more roasted notes. Really well executed and balanced porter. You could enjoy this with a wide variety of meals and you could also enjoy more than a few of them. Overall: (A)
