Wonderful chocolatey aroma and flavorings. Felt a little thinner than the stouts, but still quite good. Nuffield (2749), Roseville, Minnesota, USA

Sure, their stouts are their money beers, but with a brewer of this skill, I'd buy virtually anything they brew. (on tap, Clark Street Ale House, Chicago, IL) wnhay (722), Princeton, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 5, 2005 Pours about the darkest I have ever seen for a Porter with a creamy head that dissipates pretty quickly. The carbonation is alright but there could be a bit more. The aroma was weak at first and then there was coffee, chocolate and a bit of vanilla and caramel. The taste begins bitter but settles into a very pleasant flavor. Burnt chocolate is the dominant flavor along with caramel. The burnt chocdolate creates a unique bitterness which works quite well. A nice Porter that works well for a session beer. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 9, 2007 Pouring an opaque black, the nose that barely hints at malt does not do the palate justice. Tipping the brew back delivers nicely blended chocolate/caramel malts with a soupcon of barley lurking far in the background. A very pleasing, and surprisingly refreshing, porter. iowaherkeye (1893), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 8, 2006 12oz bottle, Batch 7557. Pours just about pitch into my glass, though while pouring it was deep brown. One finger creamy beige head. Aroma has some coffee and milk chocolate, some light charred wood, not necessarily smokey though. Some caramel sweetness is in there as well. Flavor is darker chocolate and a little coffee, still some roasted malts and some sweetness as well. Light lingering bitterness and a little chalkiness. Moderate to light carbonation--though soft and silky in mouthfeel, medium bodied. Pretty good porter, has no faults that I can see. JCB (1799), Durham, North Carolina, USA

Been a while since I had this, and was delighted to find this pint served at the appropriate temperature. Nice aroma, not overly complex but certainly hinting at the pleasures of this very fine porter. Roasted malts, yeah, but there’s more depth than that, with chocolate, smoke, and a hint of molasses in there too. Lovely creamy mouthfeel, and some superb bitter flavors coming through. Smooth, complex, and sessionable all at once.
