UPDATED: FEB 15, 2006 I was quite suprised that I was able to find this beer in a town where there is no real beer store. Shnucks grocery had some, so now I know where I will be buying all of my beer.
It poured completely opaque with a nice tan head that lasts. It was definitly one of the best porters that I have ever had. The taste wasn’t overwhelming so it makes a great session beer.

Bottled on 8-24-06. Notes from a 1-29-07 rating. A good porter, not as complex as Sierry Nevada’s. The first taste is sweet roasted/nutty/caramel malts. The finish is of mild coffee. The body is a little on the thin side, I was hopeing for a little fuller mouthfeel.

A liquid delight. Creates a cloud of foam when poured from the bottle, releasing an aroma full of chocolatey malts. I resisted the desire to gulp the foam and, once the porter (and I) calmed down, enjoyed the lightly sweet and creamy first taste that transitioned to a hint of fizzy bitterness on the long finish. Consumed with chocolate chip bars still warm from the oven (love that wife of 30 years!) -- a combo platter from heaven.

Another win from Bell’s. I had this a few weeks ago, and again they have proven themselves as a smart, organized brewery.

On tap at home. This beer is loaded with coffee and chocolate flavors. The smell of the beer really contributes to the whole experience. Dark brown with a thick, dark tan/ light brown head.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep brown color with a large tan head. The head is slow to dissipate and leaves behind nice lacing. Strong aromas with heavy chocolate and roasted malt notes along with some hints of coffee and wine. It has fine carbonation and a surprisingly light mouthfeel. Nice roasted notes on the palate with touches of coffee, caramel, and bitter chocolate. The hops are in excellent balance with the roasted malt. It also has a certain dry character to it in the finish. Not only is this one worth trying, it is worth keeping stocked in the fridge!

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2011 Bottle from santa - thanks! Pours a dark brown with a slight tan head that fades out to a foam slick. Aroma is pure roasted oat, dry malt, smoke, some chocolate, and if you try real hard there is some fatty bacon in there as well. Bells nailed it on the aroma with this beer. Taste is somewhat light with smoke, roasted malt, oat, and a bit of a brown ale type finish. There is a light hops presence on the back third of the taste that provides a pleasant bitterness to the finish. I’ve been looking for this beer all along without knowing it. Mouthfeel is clean, light, but with enough roast to perfectly support the flavor profile. Just a spot-on, killer porter with excellent roast and some smoke. Bells for the win.

Many years ago this was the first porter I tasted. It is still one of my favorites of this under appreciated style. The aroma notes malt and chocolate notes and the taste reveals coffee undertones balanced perfectly between the deep chocolate malt and subtle hops.

this porter is dark, smooth and full of taste. This has a distinct malt and digging the coffee taste!
