For straight up, no fancy additives, this may be America’s best porter. Full, slightly bitter, and of a wonderful nose and flavor. There just aren’t enough days in the week to drink all of the great Bell’s products.

Pours an opaque, unfiltered black with a medium, tight beige head (looks like a stout). Very nice roasty and surprisingly hoppy nose. Flavor has notes of mocha, medium roastiness, coffee and dark caramel. Pleasantly sweet with balancing/ample hop bitterness. Medium bodied yet very creamy and silky on the palate with perfect moderate carbonation. This was more bold and full flavored than most stouts while having the drinkablility of a porter. Bells rules.

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2006 Bottle #7393. Poured into English Pint. Displays huge creamy head with bubbles on top. Smells of roasted malt, some coffee, some smokiness. Wow, they really describe the flavor of this one perfectly on the back of the bottle. Finish is really good, chewy and slightly sour. Wonderful. Rerate: I keep loving this more and more. I upped my overall by a point because I have had probably 5 bottles in two weeks, and with my beer attention span, that is insane. I still want more. Also, I poured into a wider mouthed glass to get more aroma, so I bumped that up a notch. Note: This is a quite fresh bottle. I have had this beer before when it was not as fresh, and it was very bad.

thanks to csbosox for the hook-up on this i was very excited to try this brew.seeing as any kalamazoo i have had is nothing save for exceptional.after popping the top i was treated with an aroma of roasted coffee and malts.when i held the glass up to the light,i found a mixture of black and red.the taste is what really stood out for me.it was like the perfect blend of thickness, chocolate, coffee, and bitterness.this porter is top notch for sure.

Oh man, so good. Dark dank black with lots of creamy tan head, just beautiful. Aromas are huge roast, coffee, and chocolate notes. Even smells creamy. Flavor is huge roast, this reminds me somewhat of the Gonzo. Lots of mocha in this one too. Finishes moderately sweet. Medium-thick bodied. Nice and chewy.

Tasted 11/29/07. 12oz bottle. Batch #8146. Thick and opaque with a brown hue. Spiraling beige head. Toasty cookie aromas with a touch chocolate and coffee and anise. Nice Nose! Medium to full bodied. Smooth cocoa toasty malts. Mild acidity. Mildly dry with good crisp hop finish. Flavors of anise cocoa powder and dark chocolate. Totally solid! Nice melding from initial to finish. Good roast and delicious. More sweet chocolate style flavors and less dark berry notes. That’s what I like in a porter. One of my new favorite porters!

This was an exceptional porter. Had to beat Bells with this one. Wow. A nice chocolate aroma with a good dose of toffee and hazelnuts. Appearance was a deep dark brown, nice khaki colored two-finger head. Mouthfeel was creamy, supple and smooth. Flavor had a two-part harmony of chocolate and sweet coffee going, with a nutty kick keeping it going. Outstanding porter. Nothing heavy or overbearing, but just a really kickass beer.

Very dark. Very Delicious. Some bitterness to be had with this one, not overwheleming. My personal favorite.

On cask at Dilly Deli. Opaque black with a small tan head. Nice roasted malt aroma with a bit of chocolate and coffee. Fantastic lingering smokiness with flavors of roasted malts, chocolate, and a hint of bitter hops. Very smooth and light-bodied palate lets you enjoy the subtleties of this beer. An excellent porter.
