naivepegasus (142), USA Aug 27, 2008 Pours black with a few fingers of creamy, rapidly dissipating tan head. Sweet dark malts and chocolate in the odor. Soft, almost velvety mouthfeel is accompanied by a little coffee and toast with a nice chocolate aftertaste. Good porter with a nice light sweetness to it. SSSteve (1509), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 24, 2008 black with ruby highlights under a small creamy brown head. sweet chocolaty roast aroma. flavors of chocolate, coffee. medium bodied. lingering roasty finish. j_b (735), Rochester, New York, USA Aug 22, 2008 Big time classic aroma, chocolate, roasted malt, coffee. Palate is rich, oily, with a mocha taste and some hoppy grit. Color is cola with a thin head with some lacing. I just don’t understand the distinction between porter and stout. This is stronger than many stouts I have had and has the hop backing of a traditional stout. But I guess relative to Bell’s stouts, this is a porter weight. Nice balance and good beer. dmtroyer (339), Harrisonburg, Virginia, USA Aug 22, 2008 12oz. OH BABY! This is easily the best Porter I have had to date. It seems natural that a brewery well versed in the ways of stouts and imperial stouts should be able to craft a mighty good porter. So this poured an almost perfect cola-brown with a beige head. Nose will not let you down, this has everything from coffee, chocolate, hickory smoke and some grassiness to boot. One of the reasons I like this brew is that the flavors are so articulated of espresso, dark chocolate, cocoa, finishing with some great smokiness and the slightest hint of sour cherry. No one flavor overwhelms the other and they progress for a minute and the finish lingers for at least another two minutes. The palate is also near perfection with some weight and creamy viscosity that is balanced perfectly by carbonation. Another winner from bell’s! yumyum (51), barrie, Ontario, Canada Aug 21, 2008 I really enjoyed this brew. It is not one of those beers that blows you away. It is just a solid easy drinking flavourful beer. pours dark dark brown, almost black. Minimal carbonation which dissipates quickly. flavour that struck me was the slight smokiness which was detectable amoungst the coffee flavour. Really good mouthfeel. smooth and easy drinking. I wish this were more readily available here becaue this would be a good everyday sort of beer.
