A dark ale for all occasions. A blend of dark malt gives this beer flavors of coffee and chocolate with some smokey roasted notes.

UPDATED: JUN 16, 2009 Bottled. So Iím sitting here at home after driving around with the wife and kid and her sisters and their kids to the museum, with my car in the shop, and not finding out until late in the evening that they have to keep it another day because the spark plug that they stripped the threads putting in wrong two years ago would have to be worked out carefully, and it was too late to get a loaner so I could go to work tomorrow, and I say to myself, "Self," I say, "You need to settle down with a nice porter. Whatís in the fridge?"

Well, this, for one. Pours out a nice deep brown body and a thin brown head. Good smell of chocolate malts. More chicory than coffee. Just a touch of astringency that almost pushes it into stout territory. Roasty and slightly smoky. Nice warming alcohol, despite being a mere 6%. Just the thing to lift my mood, and a great beer to have as part of Bellís regular lineup, available in finer stores in the Chicago area, too.

Dark brown with small beige head. Roasty aromas of coffee and dark chocolate with a little licorice. The taste is smooth and subtle - dark chocolate, licorice and charred meat. Light bodied and very easy drinking. Very solid porter.

Tried at same time as Founderís porter. Comparatively the Bellís is not as heavy on the coffee flavor. More chocolate notes than coffee in Bells. Not as strong flavored as Founders, I preferred the Bellís more.

Dark brown pour. Chocolate, malt, char on the nose. Taste is creamy and balanced...adds a slight licorice taste as well. Just damn good.

Dark brown pour with a slight off white head. Roasted malt nose. Big roasted malt in the taste, some bitterness in the finish (chocolate and char). A bold porter that is quite nice.

Outstanding porter! Deep dark pour w/ a big tan head that leaves nice lacing. The aroma is fairly subtle w/ malt & chocolate. The taste is quite complex despite being pretty light in body. The chocolate, coffee, & lightly smoked notes compliment each other beautifully! Itís not too heavy for a warm summer day but certainly packs the flavor punch! Bravo man!

Roasted malt, slight sweet smooth Porter. Full flavored, balanced, but with a bit of a bitter dry finish. Nice smooth Porter, but noticeable hop bitterness in the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
