UPDATED: JUN 16, 2009 Bottled. So I’m sitting here at home after driving around with the wife and kid and her sisters and their kids to the museum, with my car in the shop, and not finding out until late in the evening that they have to keep it another day because the spark plug that they stripped the threads putting in wrong two years ago would have to be worked out carefully, and it was too late to get a loaner so I could go to work tomorrow, and I say to myself, "Self," I say, "You need to settle down with a nice porter. What’s in the fridge?"

Well, this, for one. Pours out a nice deep brown body and a thin brown head. Good smell of chocolate malts. More chicory than coffee. Just a touch of astringency that almost pushes it into stout territory. Roasty and slightly smoky. Nice warming alcohol, despite being a mere 6%. Just the thing to lift my mood, and a great beer to have as part of Bell’s regular lineup, available in finer stores in the Chicago area, too.

From bottle to pint glass. Semi-sweet chocolate, dark wheat and baker’s chocolate aroma. Pours almost opaque brown with garnet highlights. Full dark tan head lingers, with very minimal webbing on the side. Taste is chocolate and chocolate powder. Sweet malt in moderate high amounts leads to a sweet finish. Moderate low bitterness balances well with the chocolate aspects.

Bottle at home while in Jacksonville. Pours a dark brown with an off white head. Lightly grassy coffee aroma... Medium body, medium carbonation. Sweet, with milk choc, coffee, light lemon, some pine... Lovely balance. Tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Opaque black with a two-finger frothy head and nice lace. Roasted coffee aromas accompnied by dark fruit, semisweet chocolate and biscuits. Cocoa powder and coffee flavors dominate, mild balancing hop bitterness. Medium body, creamy smooth mouthfeel, moderate carbonation and a lingering fireplace log smoke in the finish.

Shipshape. The aroma is somewhat faint with notes of roasted malts; however, the taste is much more pronounced with roasty malt and faint caramel. Finish is light and dryer that I was expecting. There is also quite a bit of carbonation, which gives the impression of a more refreshing and lighter experience.

Solid porter with roasted grain, notes of chocolate, and coffee. Dark pour with thin white lacing. Go to porter...easy going and very drinkable just not too exciting.
