Had on tap at the Eccentric Cafe on April 11, 2009. Served in a snifter. A: Dark copper with a white head. Good lacing. S: Slightly sweet. Some grapes and hops on the back end. Quite fruity and sugary--cherry or red grape. T: Candied sugar and plenty of hops. Sweet with a good finish. Definite fruity esters. Some burnt sugars. M: Very creamy and medium-bodied. Definite alcohol presence. Smooth for 10abv. D: A little heavy but quite good. Goes down very well.

On tap at Eccentric. Pours glowing cloudy orange brown with a small lingering white head. Aroma is sweet prune and plum fruit with a strong candylike character. Sweet caramel malts play background to the immense fruit and slightly citric hoppy nose. Flavor starts with a big sweet fruit character, honey and fruit nectar. Gains a big biting hop bitterness, true to american barley wines, nicely citric and resiny. The rye adds a nice depth along with an alcohol kick in the finish. Medium to full body and a thick sticky mouthfeel along with the soft carbonation. Really tasty BW and a delicious after dinner sipper.

Tap at Eccentric cafe: Golden hue with a small lasting frothy head and some lace and oily legs. The aroma has notes of rye and pepper, crystal and pale malts, honey nut cereal, banana and pear esters, and some phenols. The taste is sweet and slightly fruity with a okay counter-balance of rye snap and mild spicy tones. A hint of nuttiness and honey as well before a herbal slightly bitter finish. The mouth feel is oily and smooth with some alcohol bite. Of the three Rye beers I had on tap, this one displayed some of the characteristics I expected by the name. A good brew and has some potential.

On tap at Eccentric Cafe. Poured near-clear medium golden with a nice cap of beige head. The aroma was spicy and warm with rye and slight herbal notes over aged caramel and lesser warm honey.. absolutely decadent! The flavor had a warm core of dark fruit and aged caramel with black pepper, rye, and earthy bitterness amplified by alcohol around.. spicy and memorable finish. Increasingly spicy and heavy from the front to the back on the palate.. some residual bitterness on the finish.. decent balance. Id gladly have another.

[On-tap at Eccentric Cafe] Pours hazy orange-amber with a good off-white head. Aroma is quite sweet--mainly caramel, notes of banana and rye. Taste is fairly simple--alcohol (not too hot, but def. noticeable), a lot of malt (rye), and good bitterness to balance it out. A little nuttiness, subtle notes of strawberry jam. Excellent, thick mouthfeel. Smooth. Long finish. Very drinkable, and although not amazingly complex, a very enjoyable beer.

On tap at Eccentric. Pours a hazy orAnge with very little head. Aromas of apricots and heavy grain. Flavor has a lot of rye and booze but is nice enough.

Hand-pull into a16oz pint glass. Malty hop aroma. Reddish-orange in color. Tan head, easily reawakened. Heavy bitter, medium sweet. Med-heavy body, thin-cream feel, light carbonation, long bitter finish. Tastes are quite faint for a barley wine, although I found rye, caramel and honey.

On tap at the brewery on a recent pass through Kalamazoo. Pineapple, candy, and malty aromas. Golden yellow, rich and salty. Some cake, with rye bread undertones. Creamy bitter salty duration. Slightly burned my tongue, but in a good way.

Interesting, but rather low aroma. Smells slightly soapy, with some grain. Pours a dark orange with a foamy head. Good lacing throughout. Taste is of Caramel malt, grain, light piney hops and honey. Semi-sweet mouthfeel, finishing quite bitter. Seems to leave a strange aftertaste for quite some time. Its different, Ill give it that.
