3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Petrucci914 (787) - Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 21, 2010
Pours a dark brown color with a thin off-white head which fades quickly to nothing. Aroma is dark roasts, chocolate, and rye. Taste is much the same. Almost like a Rye twist on the Java Stout.

A little more rye in the aroma and flavor would have gotten this beer way into the 4’s. As it is, I had to knock off some points for the lack of rye in the aroma and flavor. That said, the aroma was very nice with roasted malts, coffee, chocolate. The flavor was similar. Very smooth and creamy in the mouth. Great looking too. Just not much rye for me.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 temporrari (360) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - JAN 17, 2010
Bottle, 9370. Pours a dark brown. Very little head. Aroma is really subdued, very weak. Taste is better, a little dry which is nice, and a little chocolate, but frankly it’s lacking much overall. It’s not bad, but it’s nothing I’d buy regularly. Or even again.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Boutip (3294) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 15, 2010
Bottle: Poured a deep pitch-black color stout with a small dark brown foamy head with average retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with light peat notes. Taste is very particular with some good peat notes and deep roasted malt. Body is quite full with a very nice creamy texture and good carbonation. Very singular since I am not used to rye being used in a stout but still very interesting.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 zer0crew (119) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 13, 2010
Bottle. Pours a very deep brown with almost a hint of red. Has a bit of head (maybe 3/4 inch) that quickly dissipates to a thin ring. Taste is mostly of roasted coffee and some spices, with a tiny bit of bittersweet chocolate. Medium body. (Right between a New Glarus Coffee Stout and a Bell’s Expedition Stout) Not to thin, but you don’t have to chew it either. Very well balanced. A great brew.

Growler purchased from Liquor Barn, Louisville, KY (Springhurst). Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, and rye. Taste is pretty much the same as the aroma, but with the addition of some dark fruit and a little bit of licorice. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s creamy and has good carbonation. Drinkability is good, it’s smooth and goes down easy. I think this is a good overall brew, and a great beer for a cold winter day. I’d definitely buy this again.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 MaltDawg (1344) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JAN 8, 2010
(Sample Date: 11/7/2009 Source:Once Apon a Vine - Northside) 12 oz bottle. Roast and chocolate up front in nose with coffee and caramelized sugar in the background. Clear almost black with small dark tan head. Roast and chocolate in flavor with some spicy (rye) notes and almost a hint of woodiness. Lots of chocolate toffee flavor especially in the finish. Finish is medium sweet with a light spicy bitter finish. Excellent.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Birdiebeagle (958) - Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 7, 2010
Bottle Pours a nice dark brown with a light tan head. The head is bubbly and deminishing. Laces very well. Has a good aroma of coffee, rye, cream, and chocolate. Has a good carbonation. The flavor is good. Really warms you on the way down. Dark and roasty. Blended very well and alcohol well mixed. Has a decent sweet kick to it. Has a medium body. The texture is best described as slick. A solid finish with a good aftertaste. I really like this one.
