Bottle thanks to Tsotsi. Pours a dark brown with a small light tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, a touch of coffee, sweet malt. Flavor of sweet roasted malt with a touch of spice although I can’t really say that the rye is very prominent. Pretty tasty overall (although I was hoping for just a little more).

Dark brown and clearr with a light brown head. Very roasty aroma with hints of chocolate and coffee. Similar taste. Really no detection of any rye flavor for me. Smooth palate and just enough of a bitter finish.

Thanks to dra19 for this one in trade. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nose is roast, prickly rye, some cocoa, and some earth. Flavor is similar with cocoa and coffee and a medium to full body. Very interesting twist on the stout style.

Aroma is a deep sweet malt with bread and hints of chocolate. Color is dark brown with a thin off white head. Taste is more mild than a usual stout without a strong bitterness. Rye spiciness mutes that normal stout sweetness. Very intriguing.

What is with the sketches of old men on Bell’s Kalamazoo Stout and this one? Are old men the only ones who drink stout?
The only stout I didn’t find compelling from Bells was the Double Cream Stout I had about 2 years ago. I am not a stout fan at all. The only stouts I care for are usually fruit stouts (Bell’s Cherry and Dark Horse Tres are quite fantastic) and Imperial Stouts. I am just not a fan of that roasted malt flavor.
This beer is quite amazing, however. It looks like your typical stout with about a half inch of beige/tan foam in a 12-oz pint glass. The smell is what is so awesome, though; it smells like rye toast. Flavor is spicy rye, carmelly molases and some chocolate. Just a hint of roasted malt, but not like you notice that up front. Just fantastic. Thanks to CFP for sharing a bottle!

Caught little aroma (usually the case for me) and possessed little head. Extremely smooth with perfect carbonation, light, but lively. Taste fit my liking perfectly, not overbearing like some of the stronger sweet stouts, but more taste than say a Guinness type stout. Puzzled a bit over the taste (it was new to me) and would agree with an earlier reviewer regarding the cola undertone. One of my favorites

Bottled. Dark color, short head. Aroma of rye, roasted malt, hint of coffee. Taste is bit bitter, melon, fruity, roasted malt. Nice stuff.
