COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An abundance of rye grains provide a spicy twist to otherwise traditional stout flavors. A unique approach to an entirely new style of stout.

Tap at Eccentric Cafe. Light rye malt aroma. Black/brown with a small tan ring. Sweet malt flavor with a dry sour finish.

12 oz bottle from Big Top. Pours a deep brown color with a slight tan head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is caramel and roasted coffee. Flavor is roasted chocolate. An ok beer.

Black color, very small light tan head. Also a little bit of lacing. Chocolate, licorice, and a bit of wood in the nose. Interesting flavor. Coffee, and chocolate, but a stangely sour finish. Possibly a bad bottle, it did have the old style label.

12oz Pour $2.25 Eccentric Cafe Bell’s Rye Stout poured the darkest of browns bordering on black. Mahogany highlights flashed through along the sides of the glass. A minimal ecru crown formed on the pour (because the bartender) and left decent spotty lacing as it fell. Aroma was that of roasted grains and a mild coffee ground goodness. The rye was definately apparent wit ha very welcomed spicy caracter. Flavor was very similar to the aroma with a solid rye spicing that made this beer special. A lot of the standard stout flavors came through like roasted grains, mild coffee, and mild bittersweet chocolate. The alcohol is amazingly well hidden. This is on the lighter side of stouts and the mouthfeel really shows that. Body is medium and smooth with a nice slickness that keeps things moving. Highly drinkable with the moderate body and enjoyable rye spiciness. Drank this rye stout while eating a reuben and I don’t think there could have been a better combonation on that cool November day. 11/11/07

12 oz bottle, batch 9399. Dark brown with a light tan head, bits of lacing. Aroma bready malt, chocolate, roast, slight hints of smoke, a little rye. Rye comes through in the flavor more than the aroma. Flavor is rich, chocolate, rye, pumpernickel bread, some roast coffee, caramel, touches of dark fruit, some grainy malt, a bit of sweet dipping in toward the finish, spicy rye and a nice touch of bitterness to balance. Finishes fairly dry with a nice roundness from the spicy rye. A light drinkable stout with a nice balance of chocolate and rye.

pours dark brown with a small tan head that disappears quickly. creamy chocolate aroma. chocolate dominates the flavor with a little spice from the rye. flavor seems a bit flat. body is quite light for a stout. carbonation is very fizzy especially on the finish. finish seems a bit watery with very little flavor except for the spice. not a bad beer i was just hoping for more from this beer.

Opens with a nice "Pssst!" then the pour. My first thought: Coffee, anyone? Pours an almost black color with minimal head and little lacing. Smells like wonderful coffee (another passion of mine) and chocolate with a hint of rye. This was its highpoint. Taste was disappointing. Coffee is hidden in the back, as well as toffee and a bit of caramel. Rye is there as well. As a stout it's missing bitterness. Well, not the bitterness, but the balance of hops I usually expect with the sweetness. It's okay but nothing special. And as for the rye, I can only compare the flavor to what I've had in Hop Rod Rye, and this is lame in comparison. Mouthfeel is a bit more watery than I expect or like. Drinkability is okay but nothing I'd ever seek out.

Dark Black poor, with little to no tannish head. The aroma is dominated by carmalized malt. Very small/slight nose, very mild malts are the peek of the flavor. There is very little carbonation, which is very proper. Over all, a good standard stout, there are better, and there are much worse. Very easy to drink.

This beer pours very dark, almost black and formed a nice light bubbly brown head that subsided quickly and left trace lace. The aroma was of malt & rye and the flavoer of rye and chocolate. A silky body and medium finish. Not as good as their other stout's like expedition and kalamazoo, but not bad.
