3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 fly (1357) - austin, Tejas, USA - JUL 31, 2006
Stoutesque in a stout-like fashion with stoutish elements and stoutful presence carrying for a stoutment for mankind. Hell, I did enjoy this, but can say with all honesty that I was doing that thing with my head that dogs do when they seem confused, tilting it from side to side and furrowing my brow. Also can’t recal who sent this in trade - shadey? Okay, let me piss off everybody with a lame rating and bad ending ....
(DID like it, that CAN be said)

Bottled Nov.’01;Black with yeast particles everywhere.Mid-size bubbled head turns to the tiniest bubbles in this clingy, milky head.Glass covered with lace.Tastes horrible cold.(Don’t they all).Roasty, coffee bean, hop aromas are covered with a dark rye aroma.Somewhat thin palate.Somewhat acidic.Lightly sweet front. The finsish is bready and roasty.Soft and dry. Will re-rate with fresh bottle in Nov.Still very drinkable.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hopscotch (7288) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUL 1, 2003
Pours tar black. A murky, dark orange/brown color is revealed when held up to the sun. Small, fizzy, light brown head.
The nose is of vanilla, and chocolate. Some cola and smoke as well.
A rich, dark chocolate flavor. Lightly bitter, moderately tart and acidic. Well-balanced.
Full-bodied with a heavy, oily mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Short, dry finish with rye notes. Being a big fan of rye whiskey, I can't help but delight in this beer. Very nice!
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 loweredsixth (946) - Clovis, California, USA - DEC 2, 2002
Very different. The rye really comes out in the aroma and flavor. The rye aroma smelled sweet most of the time, but occassionally had a kind of pooh aroma. The flavor was spicy and slightly bitter with a solid malt backbone. Full flavored, full feeling stout. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this stout. Pretty neat idea though.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 scraff (2118) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - NOV 25, 2009
Black, light tan creamy head. Soft roasty cocoa cream and coffee aromas warm to lighter notes of earthed mushroom and black bread. Upfront roasted choco-cream flavors are nicely balanced with a light spicy rye and dark fruity tone from start to finish. Medium bodied, fluffy carbonation, bittersweet finish. Good, but I’ll stick to the Bell’s mainstream for my stout fix…

An unclear brown beer with a disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet with lots of alcohol combined with notes of oranges, and chocolate, as well as hints of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty with ntoes of coffee, roasted malt, lemon, as well as hints of prunes and alcohol.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ElJefe (553) - Rochester, New York, USA - MAR 9, 2008
Pours very dark brown with a small brown head. Aroma of cocoa, dark fruits, some light notes of kalamata olives. Dark chocolate is accompanied by a spicy twang, and a lasting spicy rye finish. I really enjoyed this. I was about to note that this is a great session stout - I had no clue this was 6.7% ABV. Damn, Bell’s can sure make stouts.
