COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An abundance of rye grains provide a spicy twist to otherwise traditional stout flavors. A unique approach to an entirely new style of stout.

Deep brownish garnett hue. Small tannish head. Grainy nose. Earthiness is evidient all the way through. Sweetness first, firm malt backbone, medium to full bodied, with a pleasant bitter finish. Very interesting, the rye is a great addition.

Carmel/Tan head. Very little carbonation. Rye heavy in the aroma. Very dark in color. Rye in the beginning and finish. Some hints of coffee.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2003 On tap Opaque body with minimal, tan head.
Very little aroma but that may have been due to the guy sitting next to me at the bar eating hot wings.
Dry, crisp stout. The rye has a definite presence in the mouth.
Palate cleansing. Very smooth going down and was served at cellar temp too!
I was happy to see this on tap so I could try it, very expensive 6-packs.

Black color, very small light tan head. Also a little bit of lacing. Chocolate, licorice, and a bit of wood in the nose. Interesting flavor. Coffee, and chocolate, but a stangely sour finish. Possibly a bad bottle, it did have the old style label.

Bottle. Almost black with a beige head. Aroma has a nice doughiness along with roasted malts. Taste does have a bit of rye in there, adding just the right dryness to it. Flavors of sour chocolate and even more coffee. How is this retired?

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2003 Black, gold tawny color with light head and average sized lacing. Great aroma with mixed sweet malt and dry rye like fresh wort and a hoppy backdrop. Flavor is very balanced and has some great chocolate & raisin parts. The rye really stands out in this beer with a great freshness. A very good stout, Bells knows how to do them well. Thanks ClarkVV!

Dark pour with dark mahogany edges, with little head and spotty lacing. Caramel, mocha, and roast malts are most prevelant in the nose. Very nice nose. Mocha flavors, what I guess is rye (I don't like rye,) and some more happy roastiness. Medium bodied with an alcohol finish. Interesting stout.
