3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 spclerk (47) - Minnesota, USA - MAR 18, 2006
Pours very very dark brown, almost black with a quickly dissappearing tan head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, earth, wood. Tastes like same, near the end it seems to taste woodier but also creamier. I’ve given it a few extra points simply for its uniqueness as I’ve not tried a "rye stout" before -- may rerate after trying others. Overall, another good and interesting beer from Bell’s.

on tap at 07 eccentric day :)
dark red/black pour. Decently noticeable aroma right from the start. A little more hoppy than some stouts, but a nice variation anyways. The only drawback of it being lighter/hoppier than some is the palate is a little lacking. Still nice, especially for something new.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 neuromatt (610) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 20, 2011
On tap at the the Bell’s Eccentric Café in Kalamazoo, served in a tasting glass. Pours dark chestnut-black with a small tan head. The head fades slowly to a thin cover and leaves a small amount of lace. The nose has notes of roasted, charred malts, coffee and lots of chocolate, along with earth and a hint of rye. The flavour is nicely balanced between semi sweet malts and earthy hops; there are also notes of chocolate, coffee and earth. On the palate, it is full in body with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a very nice stout, rich and creamy in texture, with plenty of chocolate and subtle roasty elements. 2011-08-14

Served from a 12 oz bottle form Crown in Indy. The appearance is a deep ruby brown with a medium tan head. A nice sweet malty nose with a subtle spicy note and some rich dark chocolate. The flavors are hard candy-like chocolates, almost like a tootsie pop, grainy rye almost woodness. Very tasty. The mouth is a little more carbonated then I would prefer. The spice tones of the rye add to the effect more too. Medium bodied.

Thanks to dra19 for this one in trade. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nose is roast, prickly rye, some cocoa, and some earth. Flavor is similar with cocoa and coffee and a medium to full body. Very interesting twist on the stout style.

Draft at Maduro. Pitch black, nice steady off-white head. Sweet and sugary. The rye gives it a slightly unique feel, not unlike a Caribbean Stout, minus the pungency. A little thick and sticky but still enjoyable. Overall a good quality beer, but not World Class.

Pours deep brown with a thin light tan film in place of a head. Nice full nose of chocolate and some zesty rye. Same in the flavor with a tangy rye grain standing out with bready malt accenting. Medium mouthfeel.

12oz. bottle served in a shaker pint. Batch 9399. Bottle conditioned. Poured a dark brown/black with a thin tan head. Chocolate malt and a little coffee in the aroma. Medium bodied with a rich and creamy mouthfeel. More chocolate malt in the flavor, a bit of malt sweetness. Long dry malty finish with lingering flavor of chocolate (again). Interesting beer, almost to the cream stout side, not a lot of roasted barley flavor.
