COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An abundance of rye grains provide a spicy twist to otherwise traditional stout flavors. A unique approach to an entirely new style of stout.

Bottle. Pours black with a small off white-tan head. This head soon fades to a very thin covering leaving substantial lacing. Aroma is strong of rye malts, with coffee, toffee, and dark chocolates. Flavor is nice and smooth of rye, coffee, and is somewhat grainy with a light souring bite to it. Mouthfeel is light and drinkable. Nice.

bottle - Looks and smells like a thin molasses. I’d like to try baking with this one! Pours very dark with a head that disappears before you can pick the glass up to taste it. Flavor is mollasses, coffee, and a dry rye roasted grain taste. I think that this has become one of Papabeer’s favorites!

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2006 From 12oz Bottle, #7235. Pours a rich, deep brown color with a thin layer of fizzy tan head that quickly recedes to a thin rawhide ring around the edges of my glass. Interesting fruity aroma of sugar plums dance with a soft bouquet of molasses and pumperknickle bread. The aroma is quite interesting in its gentle fruity approach and restrained toasted malt character for a stout. Medium bodied texture with light carbonation. The flavors bring out some mild christmas fruitcake spread with some fresh plum jam. The finish brings out a unique yeasty spice character before finishing with the promised smack of toasted rye. Quite tasty, delicate stout overall.

UPDATED: MAR 23, 2006 Oily brown-black pour leaving a light tan head. Coffee, chocolate, and breadish aromas hit the nose. The flavors are a roasty chocolate malt, some quick coffee in the front and in the finish along with a sutle rye note. Oil slick over the tounge, a bit malty, a bit bitter...not too much of either to where one really dominates. Very light in body for the style...almost a little watery at times...and perhaps a bit too much carbonation in the end. I think it’s a really great beer, but I didn’t think I"d ever call a stout "crisp" you know? Oh, one more thing...as great of a beer as this is...did they have to make the label so goddamn depressing? I feel like I’m drinking the soul of someone from The Great Depression...what a pisser.

Nice roasty aroma, with hints of rye in the back end. It pours an opaque black with just a thin light tan head. Nice rich roasted flavors, balanced by a slight bite of rye. This is another solid beer from Bells.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Review #600- by chance. I drank all the good stuff for X-mas and new yrs I guess...and missed out on a good 100+ reviews this yr as well. A- Body is a dark, very hazy, nearly opaque cola color that pours with an approximately 1 finger cream colored head. S-Nose is somewhat mild and the highlight is roasted malt and rye. A molasses sweetness can also be detected in the nose. T- Mild flavors upfront consisting of rye bread and sweet malt. The finish is prominently roasted malt with a hint of molasses-like sweetness. What lingers is yeasty rye bread and a hint of roasted dark malt. P- High carbonation and medium weight body. Overall the feel good: smooth, bready, and silky. O- This is a solid offering from bell’s. The rye brings a nice bready quality to the stout as well as accentuates the roasted malt and barley characteristics of the brew. Bell’s offers a solid lineup-but I still have not found a Bell’s brew that really WOWs me. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 01-05-2010 21:35:43

Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown with a bubbly tan head. Sharp aroma, of malt, chocolate, wood, and the rye comes through nicely. Huge taste up front, of rye, chocolate, malt, brown sugar, and a hint of burnt toast. Thick mouthfeel. Lingering toasty malt-rye that fades. Different and pretty good.
