Received as part of BIF 33, from orbitalr0x, Bell’s Rye Stout poured out dark brown and very well carbonated. The head was four fingers thick, and occupied nearly half the pint glass. The smell was mild, and had the typical chocolate aroma typical of the stouts of this strength. The taste was a little too light for the style, with sweet, sour, and grainy flavors. Not sure if I detected much rye in here. The mouthfeel was thin and dry, and aftertaste minimal. I could not detect any alcohol at all, which made this very easy to drink.

12oz - 7235 - Aroma is roasted malts and big rye with small coffee and hops. Pours black quickly fading brown head and decent lacing. Flavor matches aroma with a weird back of the throat stickiness. Palate is dry and creamy. Different and tasty.

Another solid stout from Bells, this one a nearly black, dark brown body with a slim light brown head. The aroma is a smooth, roasted barley smell with chocolate, rye seeds, and black pepper. Extra creamy mouthfeel. The flavor taskes a stronger chocolate turn with a splash of coffee added to the rich malts and rye spiciness. There’s a slight sourness in the finish along with a nutty bitterness. Very nice.

Pours extremely dark...black unless you hold it up to light...not much head at all. Aroma is dominant coffee. Taste is very fruity...very strange, but I like it. Chocolate, malt, and some bittering hops...no coffee whatsoever in the flavor. Mouthfeel is very very light bodied. This is kind of a strange tasting stout...unique...and I dig it.

The beer pours to a black body with a creamy tan head. The aroma is quite vibrant and jumps out of the glass. Malty chocolate, rye bread, very unique and spicy. The flavor is a chocolatey dry stout that has some interesting spicyness to it. Glad to see that Bell’s brought this one back. The palate is drying, medium bodied, roasty.

Bottle. Pour is dark, almost reddish brown with a medium beige head. Aroma is spicy, black pepper, coffee, and mildly chocolaty. The spicy characteristics of rye come through nicely. Flavor is also notable spicy with a prominent rye flavor. Flavor also has notes of black pepper, a fairly large sweet kick near the finish and an ashy finish with hints of coffee. Interesting stout.

Batch #7235. Pours black, looked like cola when first poured, fizzy head, quick dissapating. Aroma malty, with chocolate hints, and slight rye bread notes. Flavor of coffee, and tartness of rye bread, roasty, nice flavors together. As it warmed, there is a nice, suttle, smokeyness in the flavor. Carbaonation was very noticable. Medium bodied, creamy, silky mouthfeel, nice, smooth, easy to drink. I enjoyed this very much, although I wish more of the head was present, it would have given it a greater presentation. I liked the flavors and the zing from the rye. It was def. unique and I will get more. As always though quality from bell’s.

On tap at Eccentric Cafe. Nose of roastiness. Pours a dark, but clear brown. Not much head. Hints of coffee here, not much rye flavor though. The rye is definitely muted.
