COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An abundance of rye grains provide a spicy twist to otherwise traditional stout flavors. A unique approach to an entirely new style of stout.

I love stout, but some things should not be put into them. One of these things is rye. Gives a grainy and bitter taste that wasn’t too nice. Bitters lovers might like this one. Came off a little bit thin too.

Roasty sour aroma. Roasty finish with a touch of licorice in the aftertaste.

On tap at the Smokehouse. This one is no great shakes, Particularly on the same tower as Barley’s Alexanders Russian Imperial Stout. Creamy Beige head. Not opaque but def dark brown to black. Slightly bitter. Thin. Overall unimpressive.

Pours black with a little off white head. The aroma doesn’t say "I am a stout", but more of a spicy Belgian smell. The flavor has what I initially would characterize as an ash tray taste, but as I drink more of the beer, the taste has a dry smoke flavor with some hidden dark malts. Nice thick mouthfeel. Not too sure why the high ratings, but I have a sixer of this, so if my opinions change I’ll change the rating.

From a 12 oz. bottle with a batch number, 7235, and a short blurb on the back label, packaged on 02.09.06. Poured a stout looking coffee black with a small foamy tan head, minimal amount of sticking. Aromas of salt and minerals, lightly roasted coffee, a sweet fruity and a trace of smoke. Moderate carbonation and a malty crisp, a watery slick, smooth medium-full bodied mouthfeel. Tastes of coffee and grains, a touch of rye, a very subtle smokiness, a watery fruitiness, not much of an alcohol presence, and some sweet caramel with coffee in the finish with a lingering sweet, but watery fruitiness. To my taste, far from the best of the usually quality Bell’s stouts, drinkable, but I only wanted one of these.

Aroma has notes of caramel, cereal, roasted rye, with some grass hops. Appearance is dark brown with a nice dark tan cascading head that left good lace. Flavor is mellow with a slight bitter finish. Palate is medium bodied and water soft. Overall this brew may be a stout by definition but has all the character and feel of a porter. Not really a good beer in any catagory. Overall another let down from Bell’s. This brewery really needs a good new brew but this is not it.

Weak roasted malt aroma. Looks like a stout. Thin palate. Weak coffee and malt flavor--not getting the rye presence at all really. A dissapointment from Bells.

Black pour with a small fawn colored head, Roasty aroma. Lots of malts and chocolate. tHFLAVOR IS MUCH OF THE SAME WITH HINTS OF LICORICE AND COFFEE. sLIGHLY FUNKY TASTING. i’M NOT TOO SURE ABOUT THIS BOTTLE. I am usually all about anything by bells. This dosent even come close to the kalamazzoo stout which is incredible.

Had this and a Bell’s Trumpeter’s Stout on the same night. Both tasted very similar to me. Somewhat watery with an average flavor. I detected absolutely NO rye flavor in this. Somewhat of a disappointment.

Hazy brown stout. No head. Quite thin body and a way too sour finish for a stout. Lacks power and sweetness.
