I’d like this to have a higher overall rating than a 3.5, because I do think it’s better than that. But, not much aroma, thin head that receded quickly. Sweet slightly thick flavor, not sure quite where the rye kicks in but it’s not your traditional roasty flavor. Pretty darn decent.

Rye in a stout is a little less noticeable than in an ipa. Totally a solid stout. Other than that, I dont know what to say.

Meh..... Doesn’t really smell at all....looks good....tastes like roasted rye and nothing else.

Tap, Eccentric Cafe, Kalamazoo, MI. Deep brown. Chocolate coffee aroma. Sweet, heavy roasted malt and some coffee. Long bitter finish.

Pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma starts with coffee, some chocolate, lightly roasted malt and a faint rye malt. Tastes of caramel malt, some light roastiness, coffee and a bit of rye malt-- a little watery. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel.

Draught at Cypress Street. Black pour. Nice cocoa and roasty aroma with lots of depth. The rye added a welcomed spicy finish to this awesome stout. Up there with Kalamazoo for sure. Super tasty.

Draught. This is a nice spicy treat with lots of dry depth. Wish I could find this more often.

Sampler at brewpub. Pours black with a khaki head. Leaves a solid amount of lacing. Not much on the nose. Some decent rye notes on the tongue. The stout element is always solid. Not exciting but definitely drinkable.

"i thought this would be good, but this was a pleasant surprise, and IMHO better than the kalamazoo stout. the rye contributes to a dry feel and finish, which teams nicely with the roasted malt of the stout. the aroma and flavor are fantasic. the rye is subtle, but because it is, plays a perfect complementary role. very very good beer that just kept getting better as it went. thanks to Kinger for another gem.
