COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Drawn from one of our oldest recipes, Smitten Ale began as part of a series of rye beers at our Eccentric Café. The combination of sharp citrus & resinous flavors from the hops with the earthy, rustic overtones of the rye malt contribution yield an interesting take on the American Pale Ale.

Hazy orange-gold pour with a 2 finger, super creamy off white head that has great retention and leaves decent lacing. Aroma of citrus, cereal, earthy grain, pine and floury grain. Flavor is all toast and biscuit up fron, then some pine, earthy, spicy grain, tart citrus, fruity esters, an odd sweet grain that tastes oddly like sorghum, light nutty notes and bready yeast. Medium body, creamy to chalky feel and light, but blanketing and rather sharp carbonation. Pretty tasty, though pretty strange, lots of odd malt stuff going on here.

Bottle- pours pale orange, thick khaki head. Lots of yeast floating about and carbonation as well. Nose is subdued, a little pine, rye, lemon citrus an dough. Soft on the palate, with dough, bread yeast, grain and citrus hop bitterness. Balanced with lingering finish. Kind of a pilsener/rye session beer as opposed to an IPA but still good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From notes. Draft. Fruity rye with a dry, slightly long finish. Meh, i feel this is a bit sub-par for bells.

Bottle. So-so beer to me. Floral citrus aroma. Could only taste and smell a litte of the grains. Bitterness lingers.

On tap at Crum’s. Dark, hazy golden pour with a bright white head and a lot of lacing. Mild aroma of grains and a little citrus. Taste is mainly citrus and rye with a fairly intense bitter finish. Light body, feels a little watery. Just okay.

Bottle. Aroma has notes of Rye malts, citrus hops, toasted malts. Medium orange hue with an average white head that left some lace. Flavor is medium/heavy sweet and bitter. Palate is medium heavy bodied and oily average. Overall a nice rye brew.

Gold in color with a smallish white head. Aroma of citrus hops as in the taste. The rye gives it a much needed spark with its unique spice flavor while not being overwhelming which would be easy to do with this light of a beer. Nice.
