3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Bine & Vine. Pours gold with a white head. Aroma of rye and citrus. Med + body. Flavor is very rye, with citrus and something earthy/floral. Malt. For a second I thought "strawberry jam". Itís towards dry, and itís pretty darn bitter. Nice rye finish mixed in with the hop.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This is fairly light and smooth for a rye ale. There is a bit of cantaloupe flavor to start, followed by dry APA-type hops. I tasted a little grapefruit and tobacco also. It is easy going, but not bland - a nice new release from Bellís.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Golden colored beer that is more typical of a wheat beer than a pale ale but delicious nonetheless. The beer has a unique flavor that is almost a cross/mash between a blonde/wheat and a pale ale. This cross ends up leaving your taste buds very satisfied.

Pours a light copper color with a clean rye malt aroma. Taste is malty with a lingering bitter aftertaste. An undetermined citrus flavor that disappears in the rye malt flavor. A clean tasting beer that wass very drinkable.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear golden yellow, two-finger white head and decent lace. Citrus and pale malt aromas. Bitter up front, a little malt sweetness creeps in and lingers. Medium body, ample carbonation, creamy mouthfeel and a clean finish with a touch of resin.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
When a brewery mentions that the beer uses rye and even incorporates it into the name of the brew, it can throw me off. Some beers happen to have rye in them, but theyíre not ďspecialty grainĒ brews per se. In the case of Bellís Smitten Golden Rye Ale thereís no doubt that itís a rye-forward beer and it works because of that reason. A delectable palette that remarkably easy to drink Ė Iím impressed.
I poured a 16oz can into a mug. It was canned on 1/19/15 and cost $3.15 ($0.20 per ounce).
Appearance: Amber color; fairly hazy body but consistent carbonation is visible. Pours to a large, off-white, foamy head that retains and laces very well.
Smell: Spicy rye; slightly bready; light clean citrus notes too.
Taste: To say this beer tastes of rye is a bit of an understatement. Itís the most predominate character from start to finish. At first thereís a light zesty character, but also quite malty; akin to rye bread. Through the middle I get a lot of citrusy and herbal hop flavor. Itís bitter for sure, but nothing too intense. The finish brings the rye back in an even stronger, spicier, and drier delivery. Thereís underlying notes of lemonpeel and a hint of black pepper. This is a delectable palette to be sure, and an impressive one considering itís ďjustĒ an American pale ale brew at the core. Well done, Bellís.
Drinkability: Bellís Smitten Golden Rye Ale is one of the few beers that incorporates the best of both worlds Ė a full-bodied brew thatís easy to get down (and how). The mouthfeel is crisp, but in no way light. Thatís impressive, considering the beer weighs in at 6% ABV. Though I wouldnít consider it refreshing, itís in no way cloying or overwhelming. Versatile, too; pair it with a spicy meal or enjoy it on its own in any weather.
