COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Drawn from one of our oldest recipes, Smitten Ale began as part of a series of rye beers at our Eccentric Café. The combination of sharp citrus & resinous flavors from the hops with the earthy, rustic overtones of the rye malt contribution yield an interesting take on the American Pale Ale.

Slightly cloudy golden color, with solid head and body. Aroma and taste have some rye spiciness, but herbal hops and bitterness dominate.

Draft. Served in a shaker pint. Pours a light, golden color (what else?) with a 1-inch white, foamy head. Heavy yeasty aroma and flavor with slight floral notes. Lingering, bitter finish. Drinkable, but doesn’t hold a candle to the quality of many of their other brews, such as Two-Hearted or Hopslam.

12oz bottle. Poured a translucent yellow with a decent head and a lot of sediment. Aroma is piney, earthy, and hints of citrus. It tastes very citrusy and piney, with hints of hops at the end.

Small head that fades quickly. A lot of sediment in this one(which may be improved by decanting). Nose is of citrus and rye. Taste is hoppy bitter and very good. Citrus flavors and pine with very little maltiness.

Nice dark yellow with a lot of stuff flossing in it. Thick white foam. I get hops, rye and citrus in the aroma. I really enjoy the hoppy citrus rye flavor. Basically a good pale ale with the rye addition. Good beer.

Pours hazy, floatie-filled amber gold with a tall, off-white head. Aroma of rye...oranges. Taste is orange peel, rye malt. Resiny hopped. Quite nice.

Draft at MacKenzie in Minneapolis. Pours a hazy, golden amber color with a white head and some lacing. Aroma is malty, bready, cereal. Medium on the palate with creamy carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, nutty, toast, earthy, some rye, some bitter pine hops, with a bitter, earthy finish. Different, but good.

The smitten rye pours golden orange yellow with a decent off white head that leaves some lacing. The smell is hops and rye. The flavor is rye with some citrus hops and a hint of malt. Overall this is a decent beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Light in the glass with a hearty palate, the rye in this beer sings. It is lightly presented, and carries the orange and lemon notes of the hops to perfection. Pine finish, lots of rustic bread flavors and aromas. Nice, nice example of the use of a specialty grain that is seldom given such a fine treatment by the brewers using it today.

12 oz. bottle. Pale, hazy gold with a small, offwhite head. The aroma is honey, apples, rye bread, and hard cheese. The flavor is sharp bitterness up front, with a fading metallic twang through the finish. Light to medium body, crisp, and clean. Overall, this is a good pale ale, but the flavor is slightly off. Not bad, though.
