3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Light golden color with a thin lacing of white head. Aroma is pine hops with just a hint of rye. Flavor is a little one note. Strong hops with a bit of rye. Not much malt to balance, makes the finish a bit thin. It’s a little average overall.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This poured a darker golden color with a fluffy white head. Aroma was definite rye, citrus hops and pale malt. Flavor was spicey and earthy, lightly bitter with a clean finish. Decent for the style.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours hazy pale gold with a lasting, frothy white head with nice lacing. Aroma is of lemon peel, earthy hops, black pepper and spice. Taste is clean and fairly dry, with some caramel up front but mostly dominated by citrusy, spicy hops. Medium-bodied with a pleasant, long hop finish. Very drinkable and a great all-around pale ale.

Bottle. Fresh and springy with citrus notes. Murky orange with lots of flotillas. Thin off white head. Initial mouthfeel is pepper and alcohol. Most unexpected. Harsh finish. Not sure what I think about this beer. Pepper is pervasive. Different.

Draft at Zip’s Cafe. Really a nice IPA that blends in the spice of rye very well. Clean and easy to drink with a moderate level or sweeter, citrus hop bitterness. Refreshing.

It starts, as it usually doesn’t, with something special. What the hell are these little pollen dusts doing in my glass, and why are they turning me on? Am I drinking beer today or chicken stock from a Michelin starred kitchen?
These Rye Beers have put me on full tilt. Like Emmy Rossum, I can’t stop thinking about them.
So I let this brew with the IPA nose sit for a few weeks before granting myself the privilege of tasting it. The moment had to be right, as it is now. A near Spring day, momma bear and little b napping, and little ol’ me with nothing to do except relax with a pint that smells like cantaloupe, coriander and pine.
It’s not my favorite in this style, no. But it is a decent effort, highlighted by a refreshing weight. It’s rare to find a cool-your-mouth brew with enough body that you have to be reminded to swallow. Maybe I’m overreacting to last night. Or maybe not. I think it really does have that balance.
When the lips meet the glass there’s also rye bread (more obviously than with others in this style), bitter honey, dried leaves and mostly there roundness that’s sullied only by the absence of a citrus, ideally tangerine, note.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Golden pour with a huge and frothy white head. Aroma is very fresh and citrusy. Citrus, orange hop notes with a bit of grapefruit and the expected spicy finish. Lingering citrus. Pretty straightforward and tasty.

As ’Golden Rye’. Hazy amber beer, tidy off white head. Softish palate with fine carbonation. Creamy malt, a little bretty. Mild orange and grapefruit citrus. Brett is there all the time. Mild rye spice. Smooth finish.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear, light gold pour with a frothy, white head. The aroma is a little spicy with touches of lemon and grass. It has a light body with slightly oily texture and average carbonation. The taste is bitter, very dry, and lacks flavor.
