COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Drawn from one of our oldest recipes, Smitten Ale began as part of a series of rye beers at our Eccentric Café. The combination of sharp citrus & resinous flavors from the hops with the earthy, rustic overtones of the rye malt contribution yield an interesting take on the American Pale Ale.

Golden brown pour, medium white head. Light toasty aroma, hoppy toasty rye flavor. Bitter finish, light bodied. Okay, not great.

This beer was light with some crisp pale malt, orange, wheat, and lemon flavors and aromas. The rye gives it a smoother texture and little more character.

Not for me. Light golden color with little to no head. Bitter going down. Bitter afterwards. Maybe I got a bad brew? Not sure I'll be trying this again anytime soon. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(bottle - 12 oz) Cloudy orange pour with a white head. Herbal hop aroma with some light rye malt underneath. Peppery bitter hops at the start with a dry rye malt middle and a rather dry finish. Dry rye bread aftertaste.

Draft sample at the Minneapolis airport. Pale gold in colour with medium carbonation. Fairly mild aromas of lemon peel, earth, and lean grains. Balanced and easy drinking, with flavors of white grapefruit and spicy rye malt. Slightly slick mouthfeel, but the finish is grainy and sharp. Uncomplicated, but nicely drinkable. Moreish.

Pours a beautiful gold with a very nice lacing. Tastes of rye and smells the same. It drinks more bitter than most ryes I have had before. A solid beer, but just slightly above average for the rye varieties.

At first I found it a little thin and bitter. After pouring it into a pint glass liked it a lot more. Huge white lacing on the glass. Pretty hoppy, but in more of a bitter sense. Doesn’t really have that hop aroma of two hearted. I don’t even know what to look for when it comes to rye in the malt bill. All and all...me likes.

DRAFT from Tuscan in Lake Geneva (gotta love their rotating Bell’s tap); pours a darkish / bright yellow with a thin head. Nose is juniper / resin and a citrus (grapefruit?) hops with a (kinda) smoothing from the rye. Not an IPA or a APA but very similar and very tasty. Will look for it at Binny’s.

Aroma is sweet hops, rye, a touch light but not bad. Appearance is as advertised, golden, somewhat dark but a thick white head. Taste is hoppy but not to an IPA, the rye spice comes in, light but solid. Mouthfeel is perfect, softer carbonation than expected and a decent thickness in texture. Not bad at all. Overall, I was not expecting it to be as good as it was, so I’m pretty satisfied.
