3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
It starts, as it usually doesn’t, with something special. What the hell are these little pollen dusts doing in my glass, and why are they turning me on? Am I drinking beer today or chicken stock from a Michelin starred kitchen?
These Rye Beers have put me on full tilt. Like Emmy Rossum, I can’t stop thinking about them.
So I let this brew with the IPA nose sit for a few weeks before granting myself the privilege of tasting it. The moment had to be right, as it is now. A near Spring day, momma bear and little b napping, and little ol’ me with nothing to do except relax with a pint that smells like cantaloupe, coriander and pine.
It’s not my favorite in this style, no. But it is a decent effort, highlighted by a refreshing weight. It’s rare to find a cool-your-mouth brew with enough body that you have to be reminded to swallow. Maybe I’m overreacting to last night. Or maybe not. I think it really does have that balance.
When the lips meet the glass there’s also rye bread (more obviously than with others in this style), bitter honey, dried leaves and mostly there roundness that’s sullied only by the absence of a citrus, ideally tangerine, note.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a hazy gold with decent head and lacing. Aroma is some honey and rye, pretty subdued. Taste is floral hops, honey, rye, and wheat. This is pretty good, and the bottle was 7 months old. I’d trust this one to stay tasty and fresh even after it could be considered "expired". Still, nothing to write home about - not sure if the age is to blame for that.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Transfer from BA reveiw on 2-5-13-
Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a golden color with a two finger white head. The head fades quite fast to leave a fantastic level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is a mix of rye bread and hop. The hop of the beer is mainly of a citrus nature with aromas of grapefruit and lemon but along with the citrus are some hop notes of pine as well.
Taste – The taste begins with a bitter and dry bready taste. The grapefruit hop and rye bread flavor that is present upfront is met with a light fruity sweetness in the middle with some flavors of wheat. These flavors soften the taste from the initial starting more bitter and dry taste. These flavors largely take the taste to its end where they are joined by a light pine hop flavor bringing back a slightly more resinous bitter flavor to be left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is slightly above average in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather average. A little more creaminess may have suited the rye flavors of the brew slightly better, but even so the mouthfeel was still quite nice.
Overall – A nicely hopped rye with lighter notes of wheat and a decent citrus showing. A little more refreshing then the typical rye IPA, but not quite as complex. A great brew to try (and likely try again).

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from bottle to glass. Hazy amber hue with white head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is straw, sulphur, floral, plum, ripe lime, white raspberry. Mouthfeel is refreshing with medium body and zesty carbonation. Taste is dry sweetness followed by a nice bitterness in the following and a clean finish. Overall this is a nice brew.
