COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Drawn from one of our oldest recipes, Smitten Ale began as part of a series of rye beers at our Eccentric Café. The combination of sharp citrus & resinous flavors from the hops with the earthy, rustic overtones of the rye malt contribution yield an interesting take on the American Pale Ale.

Bottle. Pours a hazy gold, thin head with light lacing. Earth and grain in the nose. The flavor is nicely complex, with pronounced grapefruit and pine. The rye adds an interesting twist to the taste. Smooth finish, considering the initially pronounced bittering. Overall, a pretty decent beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle dated 01/13/15. Hazy pale yellow, heady pour. An old bottle picked up at a New York convenience store that has probably lost some of its character. Some toasted sweet maltiness in the taste, rye grain, and grassy hops. Light to medium body. The grainy malts are more forward in the taste and there is a strong peppery bitterness at the end. I think the hops have faded in 6 months.

Pours hazy golden with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, floral and herbal. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long malty, floral, herbal and grassy finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

This Beer has a very god taste. It has a light hops taste that is not overbearing. I

Pale golden pour with a thick white head. The nose is a bit bright and fruity. Some light berry esters and a bit of spicy/citrusy hoppiness. Very fresh and well balanced. I don’t get much rye character at all, but it’s a tasty pale ale. Clean and crisp.

On tap at Hopcat. Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with a thin white head. Minimal aroma. Some corn maybe. Flavor is lightly hopped with mostly pine. Nice refreshing beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a deep golden color with a large foamy white head. Notes of bread, skunky hops, brown sugar, and white citrus rind. Sort of grassy as well. Nice beer with a substantial mouthfeel.

I didn’t like this too much. The rye overpowers the hops in an untasty way. Just not that good

Pours deep gold with thin white head. Just hints of the rye. I also taste a bit of apple before a nice crisp but not overly bitter finish. Very drinkable.
